ParticipantHow can you be more qualified to give an opinion on a product you’ve never really used when I have been doing for a long while now? I mean seriously, whatever. Almost every product will have a niche market, but when someone is thinking about buying one when they don’t know why they need it, I’m going to tell them that it’s not as useful as a smart phone and it’s a waste of money. If you have a need for it then it’s not a waste of money.
I don’t think you actually read any of my post, it wasn’t an attack on Apple and I didn’t assume you had a pro Apple stance, you raised some points the other day on TS ( I was away this weekend and had someone staying for a couple of days) and I answered the questions you asked, so stop reading into things that aren’t there. FYI you did accuse me of lying about the youtube issue when I told you about the C4Paralympics videos not being viewable on non flash enabled devices, which was when I said you were talking out of your arse, quite why I would accuse a musician of talking out of his arse when discussing guitar adapters I have no idea.
I have expanded on the issues with Flash on another post which I doubt you will read, but you should, you’ve never explained to me what your beef was with Flash (I know there are many) so my other post might address some of those issues you have.

ParticipantSorry Ben, but fuck that, I have been using an ipad for the past six months and everything I said was what I found except the cable to plug in a guitar being proprietary, apparently Peavey do one (although I didn’t find it when I looked but did find some DIY kits/instructions). I still can’t get 4OD to work without an App, or Youtube
As I said the other day the Iplayer didn’t work on the ipad, it really didn’t use to, and it didn’t when I tried it even when it was available on the iphone.
If you use the iPad’s built-in Safari browser to visit the iPlayer home page, you’ll get served the version for the desktop browser — and that means Flash video that you can’t see on the iPad. Go straight to the mobile version of the site, which works a treat on the iPhone, and you’ll get a roundhouse kick right in the kisser, with a message saying “your phone does not support BBC iPlayer”.

Also for some explicable reason you seem to see it as an attack on Apple (which it wasn’t, I don’t think tablets are worth the money full stop, you will note I didn’t recommend anything else), it was the honest feedback from someone who has been using one for an extended period, not someone who has played around with one in the stores and assumes that all the Apple products are good because they are Apple.
whilst I agree with you that Flash is not necessarily the future and HTML 5.0 is, there are still apparently 47% of the top 17,000 websites using it *
(http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/application-development/2011/04/11/adobe-flash-player-usage-dips-at-leading-websites-40092458/) so it is still an issue. especially as Safari is outperformed on all but one benchmark in this review (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1610/1/) of browsers by google chrome and most other browsers, including the HTML 5 performance (The one it wasn’t outperformed on was when it got 100/100 along with other browsers), a cursory indication that even if HTML 5 was adopted everywhere, the Safari browser wouldn’t be the best browser to use it with.As for your other point the other night regarding youtube videos on the app on the iphone/ipad, go to youtube on a normal pc and search for “c4paralympics” and the results are, well lets just say way more than the 10 you can view on the Ipad app. I told you this the other day because it happens that my housemate is in charge of overseeing the talent and blogging for Channel 4’s coverage of the Paralympics and actually blogs in some of the videos. You actually told me I was lying when I told you why there are so few of the videos on the youtube app, which I actually did take umbrage to, but please feel free to try it.
In fact search youtube for “Andy Barrow and the wheelchair rugby “Journey of pain”” and then do the same on the ipad app (I can’t say it’s the same on the iphone, I don’t have one, but I think I can fairly safely speculate as to it).
*(edit: actually 48% as of june 2011 http://httparchive.org/interesting.php?a=All&l=Jun%2015%202011)

Participant*sniff* so proud of the pedantry shown *sniff*
It is a good game though, I do feel I’ve pretty much milked it and the rest of it left is just going to be tick the boxes, I wouldn’t mind building something awesome, but minecraft would be better for that, still, good fun!

Participantyou bug me into getting this game then disappear, where the hell you been doc?

Participantmy housemate has an ipad 1 and we use it all the time, but only for silly games which very rarely make much sense, I personally wouldn’t bother unless the money was burning in my pocket, also the app store is rubbish, navigating it is sooooooo terrible (you scroll down a list by pressing show more and select an app, if you don’t want it and go back, you are back at the top of the list and have to press show more repeatedly to get back to where you were, and that’s just the first thing) The autocorrect is atrocious (see various websites such as “damnyouautocorrect) and it is waaaaaaaay overpriced, it’s not practical to take anywhere without a bag, meaning it’s a home job, where it can be useful for checking up on t’internet without having to turn on a computer, but heaven forfend you should want to watch anything online, flash doesn’t work making it an impotent browser, I find it bizarre that you need to download a BBC app to watch any of the videos, even then it only shows selected ones, same with IPlayer and 4OD, need seperate apps when flash does the job just as well.
If you have a smart phone don’t bother with an ipad. Oh, and another thing, my housemate bought an effect app for his guitar, can’t plug in a guitar without a proprietary adapter due to it usin the same jack for headphones and input. I could go on.

Participantthe anime series is ok, but it was made for American audiences so loses some of that anime style imo. Can’t be arsed with the film, looked terrible as soon as I heard M knight sharlagay was directing it
XDC_Wolf
Participantgoing to read the books first, my housemate reckons they are awesome (he told me about them before we knew there was a series)
XDC_Wolf
Participantsome of us are still playing, but not many, games of note which we could be persuaded to play are poker and bfbc2:vietnam, apart from that get on ts and sort it out through there!
XDC_Wolf
Participantalso, given that its averaged 95 out of 100 in reviews, I think it is one of those games that is well worth the money.
