Its just a habit brought from bf2. I see someone lying down and not looking about (90% of the time its snipers) they have it.
There was the one exception to the rule. The other day i was on a different server and there was 6 guys on top of the bunker type things that killed me 3 times when i spawned. So i titan jumped onto it and knifed them all….

umm yeah I too have played on a server that switches you around you end up in the same squad from previous round :/ same goes for kit, even when you change a map your kit selection changes.. I wouldnt have gone into Johnny Storm mode had I not known this 😀
I have kept the customization i have done but never the squad on other servers

Did you guys not only turn the auto switch on because of the total one sidedness on some of the bf2 maps?
Thus giving both sides a chance to wtf pwn the other?
If so then you might as well take it off as there are no such maps in 2142 that are so one sided. iirc
