OK – I’m in the dark brotherhood now – Any suggestions on what stuff I keep and what stuff to sell? Just killed that imperial guy in retirement – took me a while but he take a swim in the lake and ya can get im there (after about 20 quicksaves!!)
I also joined the mages guild and cleaned em out of everything (it’s great as it’s not stealing) Got myself two grand soul gems so, Messy, Badger? How do I used the soul gem? In the arcane uni there is an enchantment thingymaggiggywotsit that you can use soul gems but what do you do wiv em ?

Then you have 2 options. 1 being to recharge your weapon (when you put your mouse pointer on it, it should say what kind of soul is in it) or use it on one of those little altars to enchant something

oh yeah, thank for the info so far – gonna find a soul trap spell now
edit: after 17:30 of course 😉 😉

quote]it allows you to create items with a benficial attribute that you particularly want.
i havent done any enchanting of my own but the way it worked in morrowind was that you needed a spell that you already knew or had a scroll and the soul gem then that allowed you add that particular ability to the desired item.
i.e if you are a thief type character you can add additional stats that benefit you more than something that you can find at the time. you can also add abilities to weapons. for example you can make a sword that does fire damage when it hits or it steals health or something along those lines.

Other way is to go to the arcane university to one of those litte altar thingies and place a soulgem there and then you can choose what to enchant. Be sure to read up cause not everything will be beneficial to you. (like an armour I made that did firedamage to me 😆 ) and the other altar in that house allows you to make your own spells with the knowledge you already have.Really the benefit is usually added damage by fire, frost or lightning or stuff like that, or on armour added protection to something, which usually means you will hold on a little longer

once you have joined the arcane university you get access to enchanting alters.
