ParticipantChaps & chappesses,
I’ve been doing the world’s longest (in terms of duration) part time post grad research course to get my MPhil. The subject is collaborative virtual reality, and I mention multiplayer games in my thesis.
I have a final deadline for the end of the month, and am just putting the finishing touches on it – it’s the main reason why I’ve hardly been on the server in the last couple of months.
In one of the chapters I talk about BF1942, BFV, and BF2, and illustrate how the map views have evolved. But in proof reading it I realised I need to show a couple of screenshots – I’m fine with BF2 as I still have that installed, but I no longer have BF1942 or BFV installable on my PC.
So, big favour time. Can anyone pass me a screenshot or two as follows:
1. BF1942 : I need a picture that shows the main map popped up over the playing surface. A second picture showing the zoomed in map would be great.
2. BFV : A screenshot showing the minimap, and also with the “3D map” symbols & text overlaid.
Resolution as high as you can manage, as I need to annotate the image. I’m not bothered about what is in the scene, just as long as something shows up on the map or 3D overlay.
I’ve not managed to find one on the web that is suitable. They tend to show just the 3D gameplay view, scoreboards, or spawn screens. The thing that my thesis focusses on is the map as an overlay to the actual gameplay view.
Cheers,
GregPS: No, I’m not the Perpetual Student Turks in disguise! 😉

ParticipantPfffft … computer games as a degree…. and people say my colouring in is bad!

ParticipantIt’s not really a degree about games. I’m simply mentioning games as supporting material to the main thrust of my thesis which is more about tools to support the production of interactive experiences.

ParticipantLens, I do have those still installed but being a thick squaddiie have no idea where to put/upload etc if I do some screenshots?

ParticipantLens, I have the games here, but no longer installed.
PM me your address and I’ll send the games to you so you can get the screenshot you need 🙂
Congrats on finally getting there!

ParticipantThanks very much for your offer Tess, but the pictures aren’t vital enough to warrant the hassle of postage etc. They’re more a nice-to-have that if anyone could knock off a couple of pictures for me without much trouble would be useful.
Badger – I’ve PM’d you my email address if you get a chance to mail me a couple of pics. I can set up an FTP account too if email doesn’t work for you.
Cheers.
Now back to my keyboard to carry on typing away. Just one more chapter to finish then a few tidy-ups….phew!

ParticipantI know you were just joking mate. I thought I did pretty well to bring in a mention of games to the thesis. It certainly made explaining to the wife why I was playing “that damn shooting game again when you should be studying” a bit easier. But I don’t think she ever really believed me.
Still, it’s got me out of the ironing for the last few years. I need to find another excuse once I’ve submitted the thesis 😀

ParticipantGood luck with it Lens. Would help out but I don’t own the games.

ParticipantYay me!!!! Done. Submitted thesis at precisely 3pm this afternoon.
It’s all a load of waffly BS, but you never know, it may just fool someone into thinking that I know what I’m on about.
It’s taken me nearly seven effin years part-time – should typically take three to four. Bad combination of circumstances with real life getting in the way.
But, fuck me, is it a relief to finally nail it. I went for a quick game on 2142 on our server to celebrate, and no other XDC bugger was on. Looks like it’s time to buy COH….
Thanks to those folks in this thread that offered help. Much appreciated.

ParticipantAbout 24000, and there’s lots of pictures and diagrams too. Just over 100 pages in the end.
