Ts? Ventrillo? WTF???

Apologies – hardly been online this last week with starting a new job, and I’m confused as to what the TS/Ventrillo status is.

1. Original TS settings don’t work.
2. Settings posted in the XDC Chat alywas say “Error – invalid port”. tried all the variations.
3. Ventrillo seems to be for RO boys?

I’m probably just not patient enough. What am I supposed to be using for 2142? What are the settings?

Bollocks to this, I cn rarely connect to the Ventrilo server, it’s absolute bollocks. TBH I don’t seem why we moved from the perfectly adequte TS which everyone knew the address for, how it worked, etc. Sorry Pharty, but I do feel this is tenkering for tinkerings sake and in my eyes, the trial has pretty much failed, can we please revert back to TS?

Bollocks to that Dazzer, I have set it up properly, I have been on vent server but it lags everything, cuts out frequently and rarely connects to the server. I DO have a degree in Computer Science, I’m no idiot, it seems to be slightly better quality but at a higher cost in performance. TS was hardly brilliant but it worked. and at a decent enough quality to hear everyone clearly, whats the point of using something that is not as reliable? It’s the attitude of far too many companies that they MUST have the newest best products, and rarely settle for the products that are reliable and well bedded in, all for what? a few MS better response time in reality?

I reasoned why I dislike it, no probs, fine I won’t use it, and I’ll be out of contact with everyone. Sounds swell.

Hmm, clan with two types of VOIP server, one everyone can use no problems, one which people have issues with, I know, lets keep some coherency by going with the one people have issues with. That makes sense. And if you don’t like it you can fuck off.

Yeah it pisses me off when I get told that I am stupid, it also pisses me off when people come back with “if you don’t like it, don’t use it” Hardly an inclusive sentiment there.

TBH it was more than irritating when you switched over to vent for RO, it meant that if I wanted to play online with you I had to use a prog that lagged my machine, and it also meant that half the clan never saw the other half. It used to be quite fun hopping into a channel even if you weren’t playing on the same game/server and just saying hi and having a bit of a laugh, but that’s right out of the window now with this bollocks with Ventrilo.

Fianlly managed to get TS going again……only to find that nobody there as all were now on Ventrillo.

Managed to get that going, and I *think* people could hear me. But it seemed to make my PC pretty unstable – could not play BF2142 for more than a few minutes without a hang/crash. Maybe a conicidence, but doesn’t happen with TS. I’ll try again without either running and see what happens, although due to my new job I’ve not had much chance to play these last couple of weeks.

I kind of agree with Wolf about having just one Voip & sticking with it.

Well if Vent is not working out then maybe we should go back to TS. My qualm about TS was that nobody could understand me very well on it. Better codecs can prolly sort that.

I am enjoying Ventrilo but, as I said ref codec quality, I haven’t compared like with like.

couldnt give a fuck what server is used…we used a vent (dazz’s) server for quality reasons…i asked pharty if we could change the ts RO one to vent as we didnt use it, as it seemed silly and unfair dazz paying money as he contributes to server/website.
for whatever reason (dosent matter) both servers went over to vent, its not the end of the world to change back, Lammie has increased the codec quality in ts, and me & Fenix attached a message to vent telling ppl so.

dont think your reply to dazz’s post was very helpful or called for.

The following laughing smilie seems to be a mocking smilie that I had been so stupid as to not check out the link. Besides which, I never insulted Dazzer, I have no idea where you got the impression I was, it seems more than apparent that smilies or not his response was uncalled for, as was your over reaction to my reasoning as to why I didn’t like Vent, and my defence of my intelligence. I’ve just re read my post. Still can’t see why you thought I was not calm, I certainly never insulted Dazzer (I said “Bollocks to that”, hardly an insult) yet you feel it’s ok for someone to insult me?

And then to add insult to injury, your great reasoned response to someone expressing an opinion on Vent is “if you don’t like it don’t use it” (which TBH read “if you don’t like what I like, fuck off”) when you know full well that everyone else is, perhaps oblivious that there are some of us out here that are having issues with Vent. And through this confusion of switching servers we seem to have lost a few people who used to come on, in fact there are barely any people on the BF2142 channel when I do get on.

Quite frankly, I don’t think your response to me was called for.
