I agree with your points about BF42 and even now 14 years later I can fire up the game and still enjoy a game of it but I’m hoping that some of that simplicity makes it back into BF1.
so it’s looking like its strictly WW1 and not some alternate reality bollocks. I’ve watched the trailer twice now and i think it could be pretty darn good. I’l deffo be getting it, hopefully we could see a lot of the old faces coming back.
Ben Cousins tweeted earlier a link to codename eagles wiki page hinting that the game could be an alternate timeline based game.
The problem I find in bf4 with air support has gone the other way for me in that as someone who always enjoyed flying but was never brilliant at it, if I try and have a fly around then it isn’t long before some flyboy has a lock on me and I’m being blown out of the sky. It just isn’t enjoyable as it was in previous titles.
Now that is a name from the past, I wonder whatever happened to digit, he was bloody good.
the WW1 thing may be something or nothing, best case scenario would be a WW1 single player campaign and the multiplayer set in WW2 but who knows.
I’m out Friday night for my Dads 70th birthday so will miss the live broadcast of the announcement but i’ll be keeping an eye on twatter, faceache etc for any news as it happens. I found the balance in BF42 pretty good to be fair, the aircraft were a mare when in the capable hands of someone like TOOTHBRU5H but i’d hope they would have learnt from previous titles how they could even that out a little in a new title.
Worst case scenario would be yet another modern or worse still a 2142 remake.

If it’s true what i posted in another thread and BF is going back to WW2 then boy oh boy i can’t wait! Could we see many of the old guard XDC come out of retirement?
how about battlefield:Korea ? it’s almost the forgotten war with very little mention of it yet accounted for huge casualties and brought Britain and America to war with Russia and China.
I’d say the weapons and vehicles would provide a natural balance between both sides much like BF42 did yet there isn’t the dependency on technology like modern but still technologically further ahead than WW2.

As much as i like the theatres of both World Wars i can’t see that WW1 would have as much as WW2 in terms gameplay. Get me right, i played a WW1 mod when BF42 was out and it was very well done and quite enjoyable but there was nothing more satisfying than flying a spitfire and dropping a bomb on a tiger and watching the mofo explode when you switched to rear view. Would the same be possible from bi-planes?
I’ve given up even attempting to fly in modern games; something i always enjoyed in BF42, Vietnam and even 2142 but in BF4 i’ve found it all but impossible to get anywhere before you hear the sound of a lock-on and you’re being taken out. For me and i know i keep on banging on about it but the modern theatre has just too much tech in it. With BF42 you could just get a plane and fly around, have a dogfight against someone and most times hold your own (unless fighting against T00THBRU5H) whereas now with all the upgrades you can get you’re pretty much outgunned against a seasoned “pilot”.
I look forwards to whatever comes next, as long as it’s not another daft cops’n’robbers style game i’ll be buying it – heck i best dig out my Pickelhaube and start digging!! 😉

brilliant, I’m not alone in wanting a return to WW2 and bored shitless of modern.
