    Congrats mate.

Now you just have to protect her in 17 or so years time against blokes like you used to be at that age 🙂

My brother has two girls, and that’s his worst nightmare!

I disagree with Pharty. I have spent a lot of time in the US both working and on holiday, and so come across an awful lot of yanks (as opposed to a lot of awful yanks 😉 ) – and I agree with the earlier sentiments that they are just like people everywhere. 90% are pretty much just like us – likeable, just wanting to get on with life, similar aspirations, like a joke and/or a beer. A few percent fail on a couple of those criteria, and an even smaller percent are complete and utter wankers. And they’re the ones that end up in politics and on TV spouting off. But how is that really much different from over here?

I reckon the same camera crew could walk down most streets in most major Western cities and encounter a similar thick-as-pigshit group that just don’t have a bloody clue about anything. In this country they are probably viewers of Big Brother….

It’s also true that most of the news is highly US oriented – foreign affairs get very little mention in comparison to say Australian or European broadcasts.

I would say the one big difference between the US as a whole and the rest of the Western world is that they are convinced everyone wants to be just like them. That their values (free market, democracy, culture, etc) are so great that every other culture must want to be the same. And if you don’t want that, then you must be anti-US. This manifests itself as an almost evangelical zeal to push “freedom” everywhere, not realising that something imposed is not actually freedom.

Well, I rather enjoyed RO – certainly it helped being on TS with folks like nOm – thanks guys.

In many ways it was frustrating – initially I spent a lot of time wandering around, and then would die. It took me a while to get my first kill, and it is certainly not as fast paced as say BF2. But there is certainly much more emphasis on battlecraft – the way you move around the battlefield. And that was pretty cool. I think it would be fantastic if you manage to work closely as a squad with TS (or Unreal’s equivalent), but only after some practice.

I thought the vehicles were great – I especially like the closed down vs head up status of a tank driver – very cool.

I think I will try and play again over the weekend, but not sure if I’ll splash out and buy it. I think I will need more time than I have currently in order to get into it properly.

I also had a couple of hangs and a blue screen of death which put me off.

But overall, I’m glad I downloaded it.

What Beer say sis the way it usually happens. I.e. your tax code gets adjusted so you pay less than what you would normally so by the end of the financial year you have paid the overall right amount of tax. Then your code is adjusted post-April to reflect reality. It’s actually a damned sight easier than faffing around with refunds and tax returns.

But the fact you were stuck on supertax to start with is just incompetence. The agency you mention could have easily put you on the right code from the beginning.

Dunno who you work for mate, but if you are straight on to supertax then your payroll department want a kick. You only get onto this if they have not done their job and sorted out your tax code for you.

My better half works for the tax office and says that supertax is very rarely necessary if people are doing their jobs at least semi-competently.

If I were you I would shake a few trees.

    Here’s a translation:

“PMSL is actually a Four Letter Abbreviation.

Whereas LOL is a Three Letter Abbreviation. And WTF is another. In which case you might call it Another Three Letter Abbreviation, in which case BTW would be Yet Another Three Letter Abbreviation.”

I learnt something today – an axolotl is actually a type of Salamander. Prior to this post I just thought the word was a made up one from Frank Herbert’s Dune series of books – the axololt tanks are where the Tleilaxu grow clones.

    Thanks folks.

I think it’s the multiple mouse clicks on the missile where I am going wrong. I just tend to press fire and hold the button down, and move my mouse to try and steer it. The multi-click feels odd.

The team points looks pretty much as I had figured – except for the obeying orders bit. I still can’t work out how that works. If as a commander I say “Attack here”, what triggers the team point? Is it the squad commander relaying the order, or the actual movement of squad players near to the target? If it just the relay then you could get loads of points even if the command was ignored in practice.

To be honest, I can never get all the fuss about how good the renders are. Anyone with a bit of artistic talent can model something and make it look good in a rendering program. On all these mod sites people seem to get so excited about a model of this gun, that tank, or some other thing. But how often in a game do you really stop and look at a model? Seldom to never. How often do you actually look at your gun when shooting it?

I don’t think FH will succeed or fail on the rendering – it will all be about the playability.
