In short, some younger members we picked up when playing Planetside 2.

They are in late teens, early 20s and have a tendency to act like kids sometimes. When they initially joined, they could be good fun and injected some new blood into XDC. They can be annoying which is a downside.

The above comment stems from how flat our rude they were to Paddy yesterday. Paddy and Kizz/Mikey have had disagreements in the past which I think is fair to say has left a mutual dislike of each other. Paddy joined the channel and although we like to to take the piss out of each other, they were far too rude to Paddy to be considered a laugh.

I did speak to Kizz at length last night and he started saying “oh paddy said this, paddy said that” but no matter what paddy did or didn’t say, there was no need to act like that. He was going to apologize but mentioned Paddy had deleted him off various platforms.

As much as I hate internet drama, and if Paddy, as the person who bore the front of it wants to, it may be worth discussing in a thread.

Christ, a double post, I suck, I might as well use this to address:

2 months time you’ll have bought it. Frame this post.

It’s unlikely I’ll buy another battlefield game unless EA dramatically change their business model. This year, they have the pre-order deluxe edition, plus the pre-season pass and have added micro transactions on top of that. They are getting worse, not better and as a total geek, I can’t reward a company that acts like that with custom.

What happend may I ask? I have no objections however, your the boss.

I’ve avoided this thread after writing it because really I don’t want to go into it, at least in public, but thanks alcohol anyway….. I can’t trust the guy because of a promise he made to me before I moved back to Scotland, and probably more because of what he did right after that. I gave him a lot of rope at the time though, and while I recall him strangling himself with it a lot, I haven’t spoken to him in a few years now so it’s possible things have changed. If he’s been on TS, as Ben says, I’ll have a word, but if I get any sort of old vibe I may kick off. The other night I revoked his access to this forum but if I change my mind I’ll be up front about this post and leave it here, so there may be some fireworks.

I’m not fussed one way or the other. I’ve seen him about TS but not actually spoken to him.

    That surprised me.

That I’ve not spoken to him or that I’m not fussed 😉

out of interest is the radeon 480 not a better card than the 1060?

It appears the 1060 is better. on paper for £200, the RX480 is nice but it means upping the power supply as the cards are pretty hungry, it’ll put more head in the case and I generally think the 1060 is a better card.

Also, if you’re happy with 2nd hand, you’d be surprised what you can get on the cheap. Managed to bag a monster PC a year ago (which I since sold on to Matt) for a ridiculous price. Guy had listed it on gumtree for £700, talked him down to £500. The CPU on it’s own cost £500, I could have stripped it and sold it for £800 the next day had I wanted to.

If you’re looking, an i5 is more than capable of gaming, although i7 is nice to have. The following graphics cards are a minimum I’d look for (all Nvidia Geforce)

    780 Ti, 970, 980, 1060.

RAM, 8GB is workable but RAM is so cheap, grab 16.

Try to get an SSD, worth every penny.

    Everything else doesn’t really matter.

Right, as a first draft, here we go. Obviously as you’re buying components, you can adjust along with your budget to fit your needs but this will play every PC game on the market, at full graphical detail, at 1080p/60fps easy.

This assumes a self build and does not include delivery.

    Mobo/CPU combo:

    £283.99

    Graphics Card:

    £239.99

    RAM:
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-corsair-ddr4-value-select-pc4-17000-(2133)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-15-15-15-36-12v-single-stick-d
    £35.99

    HDD:
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/240gb-patriot-blast-25-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-s-phison-s10-256mb-cache-read-560mb-s-write-530mb-s-100k-iop
    £56.48

    Case:
    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/aerocool-aero-500-black-windowed-gaming-case-card-reader-usb-30-mini-itx-micro-atx-atx
    £34.99

    PSU:

    £36.98

    Total: £699.92

Now, if you can stretch a little further, for a more rounded system, I would add an extra 8GB of the same RAM for about £35 and bump up the SSD to 480GB for about £40 but that’s just a convenience thing. You could go for a cheaper case and PSU to free up a little cash but that’s personal preference, I tend to buy a good branded psu as if that fails, it can take other components with it.

Also, not included an OS, but you can get a hold of that pretty easy, you can get them here:

    http://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/buy-windows-10-professional-cd-key-compare-prices/

Or if you have a buddy with technet sub you can bag one there, I’m pretty low on keys or I’d give you one of mine.

Happy for anyone to post alternate setups/criticisms.

I’ll take a look tonight. Do you need to fit mouse/keyboard/monitor/os into this or simply just the of components?

I think you’d be best getting a decent size and not care too much about the resolution. You could pick up a 1440p monitor (which is a sweet spot for gaming with a decent refresh rate) but since it’s just to monitor a friend, it may be worth picking up a 32″ telly that has 60hz refresh on it, giving them a better view.

That greenscreen thing is pretty cool, would be a good laugh with a few beers.

Like I said, I’d at least price the components individually. I always find that people add a premium on when they build it for you, you could lower your initial outlay or upgrade the components to get more bang for your Canadian buck 😉

Also a dead interesting business idea too, hope it goes well for you.

If you’re launching a company based on VR rental, are you sure just meeting the minimum specs is the way to go? Would it not be a good idea to exceed them a little to provide the option to turn up the graphics settings a little to give the best performance, perhaps giving your company a good rep by word of mouth?

I’m not sure about CAD prices, but have you looked at a self build as well as laptop? Gaming laptops are coming out with GTX 1060s, 1070s and 1080s. They are more expensive but perhaps more portable for a customer? They could even be backpack mounted for increased customer comfort?

Just a few thoughts. The build you suggest does meet the minimum specs though if that’s your question.

I’m sure if you drop £65 on the digital deluxe pre-order you can get beta access… you even get some pretty paint jobs for some vehicles.
