ParticipantActually I have had to eat my proverbial hat.
Uninstalled 2142 and the X Fi. Installed a bunch of MS patches. Re-installed X Fi and 2142 and hey presto! Saturday morning gaming in glorious techno-sound. Went out, came back and played it again. Still working and no ‘squeal of death’.
Logged on last night at 10:15 to have a game with messers Pod, Fluffy and Ryzo and 2142 won’t even load. ‘Squeal of death’ as the game’s booting up. Happens without fail each time.
I reckon that McQueen’s got the right solution…
Here’s what I did for those who are interested:

ParticipantI might be on now I’ve gotten my X Fi working again.

ParticipantTurks, your constant pedantry concerning the correct use of words makes me very made.

ParticipantActually, shouldn’t we change the password on TS to stop a certain someone from dropping by?

ParticipantPod, radiculas is urban street talk that many young dudes use around London. It’s used to describe something that is both crazy and also extreme, in a hip, to-the-max kind of way. For example:
Tommy – “Yo dude! I’m like going to totally 360 over this Austin Allegro on a baking tray!”
Billy – “Woah boi! That’s totally radiculas.”
However, LeGit’s views cannot be deemed ‘radiculas’ due to their non to-the-max credentials. Maybe if he came up with such views base-jumping or white water kayaking then they would indeed be radiculas.
But they’re not. So Turks has just made a mockery of this thread by misuse of words.
Bad, bad Turks.

ParticipantI heard that the sequel was going to be Alien Vs Big Bird (from Sesame Street) and that it was going to be a U cerificate. Cliff Richard was going to turn up halfway through and start singing ‘Summer Holiday’ and then Una Stubbs and that bloke from ‘Give Us a Clue’ were going to start hand jiving, whilst the Alien laid down some rap lyrics Vanilla Ice stylee. Then Elmo the Grouch was going to read some poetry about being friends and we’d learn that the whole movie was brought to us by the letter ‘C’ and the number ‘4’.
In the interview I saw, when he was confronted about the script and the absurdity of it the director said “well it can’t be any worse than the first one.”
He’s got a point.

ParticipantGet the screen Turks you young fool!
The trouble with buying a monitor is that there’s normally always something better coming out, or a better GFX card that would improve this and that, so you wait and wait and wait.
Get the screen and then you won’t have to worry about a new one for another few years, but you’ll always be able to upgrade your PC a bit now and then.

ParticipantLegend is indeed a great book, as are most of David Gemmell’s novels. I don’t think I’m alone in recommending his Jon Shannow books, which are part of the Last Sword of Power series.
However, I do think David Gemmell’s books are popular due to their accessibility, but that does mean that they’re a bit too much of an easy read sometimes.
However Legend was his first published novel, so check out some of his others.
I’ve just finished reading a book Cowboy lent to me called ‘The Naked Soldier’ (I wonder why he chose it?) a biography of a young lad who joins the French Foreign Legion, and starts to go a bit crazy. Good read. A bit like Bravo 2 Zero, but without the war, capture or Andy McNabb killing 500 Iraqis by himself.
Just about to start reading ‘If Chins Could Kill’, which are a collection of industry related stories of Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame.
Groovy.

ParticipantWhat gets me is how LeGit can justify his actions with some warped sense of morality that allows him to pick and choose when he feels it’s time to be righteous.
Putting a guys details on a forum that cannot be google’d = Wrong
Driving like a maniac = Okay
Bottom line is that we wouldn’t let him in our gang because some of us had issues with him, so to disprove this he acts like a complete twat.
Great going Einstein.

Participant“If your drivers name is Cheryl you’re in utter fuckin’ peril!”
😆 😆 😆
Technically though women are safer drivers, hence the cheaper car insurance. That’s because:
a) Men drive (something like) 12 times further in their lifetimes than women.
b) Men’s cars are typically more expensive, and cost more to replace.
There, you’ve just learned something for nothing. Now I’ve got to call the office to do some tech support during my holiday. 😉

So which clan would this be?!
kicking coons in a row
Hmmmm…
Holy shit! I’d no idea I was such a racist until Turks spotted these blatant give away signs!
Rest assured that I’m off to give myself a very thorough kicking!

ParticipantDammit Mouse! I’d almost convinced everyone here that I wasn’t a peeping Tom!
And yes. That is the real reason for the tripod 😳

ParticipantI reckon Itchi’s been snorting something of late ‘cos he’s seriously kicking arse at the moment in BF2142. I was on a server with him yesterday and he joined mid game and was ranked 3rd or 4th on the server in no time.
Either it’s drugs or he’s channelling Max in some weird voodoo type way.

Im sure he probaly only got a whiteish grey blob with the moons around it. I get that with a 6″ with my lenses at full mag In clear Spanish sky so I cant imagine it’s going to be any better in London.
Apparently Mars will be at its closest to the earth on the 27th August from about midnight onwardsI actually saw Jupiter quite clearly. The bins aren’t made by Zeiss, but I could see that it was a creamy-white disk (not a star), and saw the pin pricks of light that were the moons. Luckily I’m outside of London in a commuter belt area, so the light polution isn’t too bad.
I actually got myself a tripod too, a cheap one of eBay, which isn’t great, but it helps. I think the problem is that the bracket that comes with the bins isn’t really suited to the monsters I’ve got, so they still wobble a bit.
Depending how I get on with the astronomy I might consider buying a better, purpose built tripod. That way I can slowly buy quality bits for the hobby, as and when I know what I need.
