I’ll make a technical support analyst of me yet. PC seems to be working again for the time being. Loaded up 2142 and was even able to play a game. So till it explodes taking me with it no doubt, I need to start playing some games again. Who’s about tonight?

Actually I have had to eat my proverbial hat.
Uninstalled 2142 and the X Fi. Installed a bunch of MS patches. Re-installed X Fi and 2142 and hey presto! Saturday morning gaming in glorious techno-sound. Went out, came back and played it again. Still working and no ‘squeal of death’.
Logged on last night at 10:15 to have a game with messers Pod, Fluffy and Ryzo and 2142 won’t even load. ‘Squeal of death’ as the game’s booting up. Happens without fail each time.
I reckon that McQueen’s got the right solution…

Hoping it’s my modem, there’s a few wires unprotected sticking out. Gonna source another modem from Hippy in the wk to try out my idea. Would explain the constant line drops. Already swapped over filters.
apparently one of Creatives main flaws is that they use piss poor cheap components on their boards. Some post somewhere about a guy into electronics and soldering goes and changes all the cheap shit in his expensive X-Fi sound card for some above par components and hey presto… problem solved. Creative are fast becoming like Motorway service stations. Overpriced dodgy food with nowhere else to go
