Why I oughta…!
Mine does exactly the same Signal. Starts off okay(ish) and then just gets worse. Titan maps are unplayable, but I can get by on Gibraltar or Cerebe without it getting too bad (15 fps). But I’m not so sure it’s the patch. I don’t recall having these problems early last week. Titan’s have never been particularly great for me, but now they’re a joke. It took me ages to get down the walkway from the hangar to the reactor room yesterday ‘cos the the frame rate was too low. Also, are you having trouble selecting weapons?

Back in the 90’s I used to work for the Federation Against Software Theft and had to destroy any old hard drives that we threw out since they often contained court material. This normally involved me whacking them with a hammer.
One particular day we had a new saleswoman start who said “I know nothing about computers, so I’d like to learn as much as I can”. She came up to the forensics lab and was introducing herself to the team as I was dismantling an old HDD to show some of the other what was inside, prior to disposing of it. As the woman came over and said hello keen to learn about ‘computers’ I poined to the exposed disk plata and said “well you’re just in time to watch me fix this computer virus. Look, you can see it there.” I ponted to a speck of dust on the disk as the woman made suitable noises at actually physically seeing a comupter virus.
I then gave the HDD two swift blows with the office lump hammer and then bent down close to inspect my handiwork, nodding sagely and saying “I think one more blow should do the trick.” The woman just stood there next to me agog as I whacked it again. Of course by then the rest of the team were in hysterics.
So there’s always time for hammers!
I’m not sure that it’s a patch problem. I only installed vent last Friday, and the game wasn’t this bad before then 😕
I’ve already cleared out the graphics cache, but the problem persists. I might try reinstalling the gfx drivers and direct x first before going the through the hassle of a new 2142 installation. Trouble is though that this is a new XP build anyway 😕
Plus, since I’ve installed (and subsequently uninstalled) vent, 2142 won’t run with TS running. It starts to load and then drops out.
I’ll put ‘Friday lunchtime debautchery’ into my diary for the 16th of March.

If it’s any consolation McQueen, I now can’t run TS AND 2142 at the same time. Also since Ventrilo my 2142 installation plays at about 10 FPS, even in single player mode 😕

Bah! Any other Friday and I could make it, but I’m taking Friday off to sort out a surprise for the wife. I’d be well up for a meal or a beer at any other time. Providing there are no Northerners present:

I normally only get to play BF2142 at odd times normally for an hour or so when I get in from work on a Tuesday or Wednesday, or early on a weekend morning when only a few people are awake.
Such is my life.
Although Wolf is without doubt the most stupid person I know (and I know lots of stupid people) I agree with him in this instance and I’ll be friring up TS rather than Ventrilo. TS just seems to cause me less lag than Ventrilo.
So in summary:
Wolf is very stupid and I’ve just decided that so is Signal as well for agreeing him. Myself, on the other hand, am the clevererest person in the world for agreeing on the same thing, but in a more cleverer way.
Good point Turks. I just hope one of those giant squares floating around in space doesn’t crash into the earth or that’ll really make matters worse.

2142 has been quite laggy for me of late, and ventrilo doesn’t help, although it’s not the whole problem. I’m not sure if my PC is just too slow or if my broadband’s not quick enough.
On Saturday morning I was playing on a French server and podded onto their titan just as their shields went down. Being a support dude with the Ganz I ran for the first terminal threw down my sentry gun for cover and started blasting. As soon as the muzzleflash appeared my game went into ‘Karibuki mode’ with about 10 fps, even when I stopped firing, and it had been fine up until that stage.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I think that Wolf’s to blame.

Insane this is an EA booster patch we’re talking about here! Have the brothers Brown hacked your account or summat?
I’m not going to get the patch based on previous experiences with the boosters. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, just won’t get to play them. But by all means stick it on the server to give the other bods a go.
