My thoughts:
2 servers are a nice idea but I think we should use contributions to pay for 1 game server and the web server first and foremost. I’m convinced everyone should chip in at least something. There are very few who don’t use the game server and/or the web server in some shape or form.
I think the game server should move to 2142 when it arrives. If there is a body of consensus that wants another game other than Battlefield then I am happy(ish) to follow, but keeping it on BF2 would be a bad idea. We’ve always brought in new blood to XDC by keeping up with the BF series. I don’t see why we should stop now. Besides I think by paying a little extra you can keep the ability to change the server to any of the previous BF versions.
I’m not sure we should be so quick to abandon Multiplay without giving it some thought. We get TS and BF together. Its been ropey in the past but it seems to be stable now and they do have the geeks in the background with the know how. Multiplay also have a known presence in the server bowser so I am sure we pull in trade through that route. If we change to a little known server provider to save a fiver or tenner a month we may find we lose out on bringing in new players.
I pay the รฦรโรยขรขโยฌร ยกรฦรขโฌลกรโรยฃ2 DD a month or whatever it is. I’m happy to pay more for a great server.
Max and I explained politely what was what. He took the tags off, played for about 10 minutes then left.
I would say that if anyone wants this, despite Vonnie’s sagely opinion, then we set aside a day (say a Sunday) to set the server up to have a go. No point making any major changes to the server at the moment – its difficult enough as it is getting it started in the early evening (All those that turn up at 8pm wanting a space kicking spare a thought for the 6:30 club who unlock the doors, turn the lights on and get everyone joining ๐ ).
Also 2142 will be upon us in less than a month and unless a majority in XDC decide otherwise/ cost considerations the server will probably be running that.
But I’m happy to put together a server profile for infantry only if people can suggest maps and map sizes for a good rotation.
