Chaps, I am contemplating picking up running the server from where Spugsy has left off. However, I am also open to suggestions regarding the way forward.
We can keep the status quo, we can change server company etc tec etc.
I would like to know all yer ideas and opinions, then I will set up a poll to see what we all think. So I am looking for ideas for a poll.
BTW, my view is that we should seriously consider 2 servers. There are many members in the clan, with large support bases for more than one game. Having 2 servers would be a nice way to balance two popular games, and perhaps provide the opportunity for occasional forays into other arenas.
Lets know what all you priviledged XDC peeps think.
sounds all good pharty, i’m happy to contribute to the servers though i don’t play too often now. I would suggest looking at other providers too, and perhaps having one server non-ranked so that we can chuck mods on there from time to time (dependant on peeps wanting to play mods obviously).

I agree with WET 2 Servers seems the way to go. The main reason being other that BF2/2142 there are some great multiplayer games coming out in the near future.

So my humble opinion is that we should have one ‘Core’ Server and another playing a variety of different games at diffent times depending on which is flavour of the month.
I am also willing to donate a fews shackles too

2 servers is a great idea – god i just with i had time to play on them

At the moment there’s not quite enough to run one server and the contributions towards this web site (i.e. Magicker) is still running somewhat short.
This change will probably be an ideal opportunity to look at what exactly XDC costs and to ensure that no one has to incur the costs. (currently £3.50 per month is contributed towards this site – this includes the rental cost plus all updates and free maintenece from Magicker)

OldPhart in view of the lack of response from previous posts by myself regarding the latter, I would make certain that the money is there before you decide on anything
Well, my thinking is I will happily fork out for 1 year for a 32 man server. Costs range between £460 to £780 depending on host. I will be happy if I can redeem £400 for that from the members.
If we want a second server then we should rethink the way the clan works, I can afford to pay for 1 server by myself but would expect a second server to be covered by members.
At a rate of £5 per month per member, we can more than cover this, but if peeps do not contribute its just pissing into the wind……..
Im happy to continue paying, we need to ask about with our other clans, who they are on, how much, and more importantly what the service is like.
The basic we need is a 32 peep server with teamspeak for Bf2/2142,
If we do change from multiplay it may be an idea to start off for just 3 or 6 months.Incase they are shite and we are stuck for a year.
May be an idea to post in the public area, asking who uses what ?
And a new round of tin shaking is needed for server and site.
Once the D/D’s or standing orders are set up, thats half the battle, but I believe that you would tell us if were not paying our way Pharty 😆I will support whatever server XDC gets as I love playing with you guys (no gay pun intended you faggot!)
Currently got 4quid going out on DD each month, but would quite happily increase that to 10quid a month to play on a smacktard free server.
2 servers would be cool, as we obviously have the “BF2 rocks contigency” and the “I hate BF2 bring on BF20293”
Yep, with toothy, dont take my BF2 away from me please. Not fussed about a second server, dont play anything else.

I have already put £100 towards the servers, so will wait until I have been in for 4 years (about a years time) before donating again – although I think Dei is still donating on my behalf.
Couldn’t hurt to ask these server provider companies if they offer free sponsorships to gaming clans. All they can say is no…cant hurt to ask. Some will offer up a server if you stick their logo on the web site and pitch their services to other individuals wanting a gaming server, ect. 8)

My thoughts:
2 servers are a nice idea but I think we should use contributions to pay for 1 game server and the web server first and foremost. I’m convinced everyone should chip in at least something. There are very few who don’t use the game server and/or the web server in some shape or form.
I think the game server should move to 2142 when it arrives. If there is a body of consensus that wants another game other than Battlefield then I am happy(ish) to follow, but keeping it on BF2 would be a bad idea. We’ve always brought in new blood to XDC by keeping up with the BF series. I don’t see why we should stop now. Besides I think by paying a little extra you can keep the ability to change the server to any of the previous BF versions.
I’m not sure we should be so quick to abandon Multiplay without giving it some thought. We get TS and BF together. Its been ropey in the past but it seems to be stable now and they do have the geeks in the background with the know how. Multiplay also have a known presence in the server bowser so I am sure we pull in trade through that route. If we change to a little known server provider to save a fiver or tenner a month we may find we lose out on bringing in new players.
I pay the £2 DD a month or whatever it is. I’m happy to pay more for a great server.
Wipey, your thoughts are welcome and good. My intention would be to move with whatever BF version is flavour of the moment. I also want to stick with Multiplay as they are a known quantity, have improved, give us TS etc etc
been paying £4 dd for server and webby….tbh i’d rather not be paying for a game server which i have no intension of playing on (bf franchise)..but have been paying for the last 6 months without playing on it so i will keep contributing to it, until and if Phart can get the monies through donations….
so the bf kiddies need to contribute their pocket money 😉
