Steps to purchase/download:
1. Use your ea.com account to login and purchase. You don’t have to make a new one if you have one already. Pogo accounts or any ea.com account works fine. – your ea.com is not your bf2 account.2. When purchasing it will ask you for your BF2 login nickname. Just enter the nick you want to apply EF to. You can change it later if you change your mind. This is sometimes called the GameSpy nickname or the BF2 nickname. Same difference. For example, if you play BF2 as Shawn then enter Shawn (not email) in the double field that asks for your GameSpy Nickname. Your GameSpy nickname is your BF2 name.
3. Download using the downloader. Make sure you don’t have your downloader logged into a second different ea.com account. I did that without noticing and thought I broke it.
4. Click install in the downloader when it is ready.
5. Play the game normally. You don’t need the downloader open, running or even installed at this point.

The server page is showing all the maps and basically showing I should be able to play the maps, but when I go to join a message appears to say FARK OFF!!!! DOWNLOAD IT MATE!!!!
Any help would be greatfull as Im as computer minded as a lobster in a sauna!!! 🙁
Morgan – a few of us were caught by this. You need to go to the EA downloader app and click on the link which says something like change Gamespy id. You will be taken to a webpage where you can enter a new nick – this should be exactly the same as the nick you use to login into the BF2 account server every time you start the game, eg =XDC=Morgan or whatever.
You should then be able to join.

Where: You can make this change in either of 2 places.

(i)Open the downloader
(ii)The Euro Force image will have a link “Edit GameSpy Nickname”.
(iii)This opens a web browser and you are then on the Edit Account section for your EA account.
(iv)Login and enter your BF2 name in both fields.2. EA Edit Account
(i)Go to ea.com
(ii)On the top menu bar find My Account. Likely by clicking your name if you are logged in.

(iv)A tab for Downloads will show you the field to enter your BF2 name in. Name goes in both fields.I’m liking this more & more. All the maps are pretty good esp Harvest and Road rage. Harvest reminds me of ’42 or an FH map. The threat from the air is just about right – ie a minor inconvenience every now and again but the pilots seem to get shot down pretty quick 😀 Tank battles are the name of the game – its strange to see half the team playing engy or AT.
If anyone is umming and ahhing about getting this because of EF then don’t. It urinates from a great height all over the steaming waste of space EF was. 😉

Nope, I CTD on a Dutch server twice when trying to join and a german server once when 5mins into a game.
Was on your sever when it crashed though.
This is classic punkbuster failing to autoupdate symptoms…

I’ve just played the one map so far but had a look at the others and it looks way better than EF. These maps are big – open fields on two of them with lots of armour and insignificant air power. Too early to say whether any of them will be classics but it could be the tank battle maps we’ve all been waiting for.
Couple of things to try..
Update punkbuster manually. I had this with both with Euro Forces and Armoured Fury last night. If PB can’t update automatically you won’t get any messages – just dumped to desktop or game freeze. It usually happens within the first few seconds of joining a game.

Also its a good idea to check your RAM with Memtest. BF2 is a memory fiend and its likely to be the only application on your PC that will ever get near to using the 2Gb you’ve forked out for. Its unlikely under normal usage that you will ever see problems with your RAM – but BF2 will find em and crash. If you’ve got 2 Gb try reducing it to 1Gb and see if the problems occur, then swap over chips and try again. If one of them crashes and the other doesnt it might be a memory problem. Running memtest will indicate a problem chip and it may mean a refund.

Similar CTDs happened to me with this and Euro Farces. This sorted it out. Worth a go.

I’d check the medusa threads over in the overclockers.co.uk forums before taking the plunge. The failure rate on these things is abyssmal. Remember you’re paying only £30 for a pair of headphones so you’re getting what you pay for. I didn’t like them – far too heavy on the head – and the sound quality is at best mediocre – but the deep bass seems to win people over.
