KeymasterI don’t remember it either, or at least not so obvious. Must try a game tonight to check.

KeymasterGameSpy: Are you toning the flashlights down a bit?
Lars: Yeah, they should be much better at release.🙂

Keymasteri’d say modern has been done to death and then some!
Hard to disagree with that except that, for whatever reason, they keep releasing really cool stuff in modern settings, and it’ll stay that way until someone figures out how to inject the same into a WW2 title. I struggle to think how they’d do that, but that’s probably why I’m not earning megabucks as a game designer. A revamped BF1942 would be good to see though, and surely that’s a no brainer that we’ll get eventually.

KeymasterI don’t think it’s a class specific weapon as it’s unlocked at rank 16 only, and I’m sure I’ve seen recon class guys using it amongst others. Could be wrong though.
Oh and yea it was quite clear how pesky it was as it seemed to be all that killed me. While it didn’t exactly seem over powered when I first unlocked it, once I eqipped the RDS it was awesome. Part of the reason it’s so popular may simply be that the RDS is the first unlock for the gun, whereas the M4 for example has a RDS about 6 unlocks down the chain. I’ll be interested to check the RDS on other weapons on full release because for me that was the biggest difference – possibly the clip size was bigger as well though? It was just so much clearer where to aim over the normal ironsights.

KeymasterWell for the sake of something to say, get to Rank 16 when this is released asap. The UMP unlock at that level is great once you also unlock the RDS (which is the first unlock for the gun). It made a huge difference to my play last night.

KeymasterYea it won’t happen for a long time yet. The WW2 phase for devs was a good 5 years ago, but it was pretty much done to death and they had few places left to go with it. The problem if you don’t like the modern setting is that there’s just so much more incredibly cool stuff they can do when it comes to likes of single player campaigns for example. There are also much more options available for weapons, unless they do an arcade version of WW2 like BF1942, but that usually puts off the reality types who moan about lack of historical accuracy, and who make up the majority of ppl who give a shit about game setting vs a games playability.

KeymasterDo you have your eyes closed when you spot?
Alzir
Keymaster* The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
It’ll be interesting to see how well this works. One of the reason’s I agreed with keeping 3d spotting off on our BC2 server was that the spotting key could be spammed so as to show up ppl you hadn’t actually seen, however I’ve noticed already that this doesn’t happen as often in the BF3 beta. If they’re still tweaking it, there could be a strong case for leaving 3d spotting on when we set our own server up for this, particularly given the amount of vegetation and hiding spots apparent on Caspian Border. If that’s an accurate reflection of the other maps, 3d spotting is a powerful tool for a team good enough to use it.

KeymasterHow much is it?
Are you married?

KeymasterGood Steve, how about yourself? Fancy trying BF3?

KeymasterHaving said that, Jim raised a good point last night that I’ve reconsidered my position on and it’s the range on the lights that’s a bit of an issue. I had someone on the top of a cliff last night blinding me from a good 3 or 400 metres away, in daylight, so they could do with toning that down a bit for the full release….no issue if it’s in your face, but that far away during the day is silly.

KeymasterThat good games were had doesn’t mean it’s a great game yet, and yea that judgement will be reserved for full release. It’s worryingly very similar to BC2 so far, although the Conquest map we were playing last night was better designed than most conquest maps in BC2, but I suppose your overall opinion depends what you didn’t like about BC2? For me I developed a hatred for Rush, which more often than not felt like either camping or banging your head off a brick wall (though was sometimes good), and the conquest maps were far too linear on the most part. After that the game didn’t bother me too much, although initially I was put off a bit by the COD style they had adopted. It was still a bf game at heart though, and it was the teamwork in squads of XDC (and rats) that kept me playing it for quite a few months. It didn’t have the longevity of previous BF titles because the maps were just too one dimensional for me, but it was by no means a terrible game as many nights of fun were had.

KeymasterCool, first time I’ve been even slightly tempted to get one of these.
