As I recall Inversions was a Culture novel.
Yeah, it is.
Although it’s never explicitly stated, there’s lots of references and rather obvious hints throughout the book that make it pretty clear the book is about a ‘Special circumstances’ mission seen from the other side.

OMG what a film.. I laughed all the way through.. one of the best comedys this year, last year, year before that.. heaps better than Shaun of the Dead
Its a Must see.. like now.. GO SEE IT!!
12/10!!
It was okay…not as good as Sean of the dead… still a good film in its own right though.
DeicistParticipantThink I joined pretty soon after Turks, it was during the 1942.co.uk days anyway.
DeicistParticipantInterestingly enough Cannabis use has only been illegal in the US since the 30s after a flurry of propaganda on the part of Harry Anslinger (who had just been made director of the newly formed Bureau of Narcotics and was trying to make a name for himself) and William Randolph Hearst (a newspaper magnate, who had huge investments in the timber industry and was facing competition from Hemp growers). The first anti-cannabis law was passed in the US after a single day of debate, and despite the American Medical Association being completely opposed to it.
Obviously this link is biased, it’s from a site called Drug War Rant…. but you can wiki the facts in the article, they’re pretty solid:
DeicistParticipantI kind of guessed she wouldn’t be able to hear it, but what’s important is wether she thinks she can hear it 😉
DeicistParticipantaye, I know I can order them from loads of places, what I was hoping is that someone might have an old one lying around I could have for little or nothing since I’m absolutely brassed. Cheers though 🙂
DeicistParticipantUm…yes. It’s the pre-sequel. Also, my post was better. It has a link to wikipedia and everything 😛

As you spawn in go to the pods on your right (if you spawn in looking outwards from the ship) they face towards the back of the ship.
Any of the pods can face towards the rear, you can turn the pod using the mouse before you take off.
DeicistParticipantThe pods controls are exactly the same as infantry controls. Mouse to look around and WSAD keys to move forwards / backwards etc. It’s like when you’re in a parachute, but quicker. My pro tip is to look downwards as soon as you launch, I find it much easier to steer when looking straight down for some reason.
DeicistParticipantAh, sorry Wipes, I misread your post as saying ‘I need to put a message about this new policy in there’, my mistake 😀
anyway…
I just think beacons are different to other spawn points purely because you can plant them behind enemy lines or anywhere you like without first securing the area. What happens if you’re guarding a flag and someone plants a beacon on the other side of the flag area? Do you leave your cunning defensive position to go and kill the beacon or do you sit there and wait for gormless squaddies to repeatedly spawn there and mow them down? What happens if someone plants a beacon somewhere that’s difficult or impossible to get to? are you allowed to shoot people dropping in there, or do you just have to back off and lose your flag?
If you plant a spawn beacon in an unsecured, ‘hot’ area you deserve everything you get, especially if you repeatedly spawn there.

Yeah, any clues to identifying who a beacon belongs to gratefully received lol.
If the policy is going to be to discourage camping enemy beacons because of its similarity to regular spawn-camping, then there should be a server motd to that effect. No problemo.
If you get close to your own beacon it should appear as a green icon on the HUD.
Agreed about the message. I’ll see about fixing the server message that appears when you load maps.
um….are we going to have some discussion about this or has ‘spawn beacons are off limits even when they’re near enemy flags’ suddenly become the policy?
DeicistParticipantI’ve had the (not supposed to be) public beta for a while. It’s good, but somehow doesn’t seem to have the sense of scale I was expecting from the trailer.
DeicistParticipantI’m with ZigZag on this one, if a squad beacon is in a ‘hot’ area then anyone who spawns there is fair game. If they’re silly enough to keep spawning there then keep killing them, each time they spawn / die there you’re effectively keeping one of the enemy off the battlefield. It’s tactically sound, and if they don’t like it they can always spawn somewhere else.
DeicistParticipantThat things never going to be on sale. Moller has been developing skycars for 40 years and the most any of his prototypes have done is hover 15 feet off the ground. He’s a con man.

yeah, I’m sure you’ve said that before.
