Personally I’m not bothered. I just ignore them. Jeez, our whole existence is surrounded by ads.
The slight irony here is that I bet all the people complaining about ads browse the web. I bet 90% of the sites you visit are stuffed with adverts. If, indeed, ads do “fuck with your head”, then you’re majorly fucked anyway. How many of you refuse to use Google because you get ads in the search results? I’m betting none.
Even our dear old Turks here is advertising Amazon indirectly with every post he makes…..Nobody has jumped down his throat for doing so.
As long as the data collected can’t identify me personally, and that the bandwidth consumed by pumping ads at me and sending my data back does not screw my gameplay, then I’m OK with it.
October 18, 2006 at 6:44 pm #36040TurksMeisterParticipantI agree… 🙂
As long as it doesnt ruin te game – then I would disagree.

If the ads were “hard coded” into the game then no problem, the fact they are dynamic and could possibly affect the gameplay then that gives more cause for concern……..personally i don’t give a flying wank if the billboard in BF2142 is trying to sell me edam cheese or coca cola, as long as the game doesn’t stutter or grind to a halt everytime the info is updated then thats cool.

[rant]Where’s the escapism in having adverts in the game? Where, in fact, is the reality? No vending machine survives 2 minutes in a warzone. So, if you’ve lost the escapism and you’ve lost the reality, you’re only left with cynical advertising in a low-grade entertainment medium. That’s not the future that I had my heart set on, nor is it one I’ll slide into like a nice consumer boy.[/rant]

October 23, 2006 at 11:24 am #36050RonathonParticipantOnly problem I have is that this a war ravaged world in the future.
Isn’t most of the planet frozen and what’s left is being fought over, meanwhile…. the advertising gurus are still at it..
However, I understand that all advertising artwork has to be passed via Dice’s artwork team – in order to ensure that big adverts don’t look out of place in a war ravaged world.
