ParticipantFor any of you PC wizards out there!
In my titchy comp I have an AMD 2400+ on an Asus A7N8XE-Deluxe mb with 2 Gig Crucial RAM, I purchased an AMD 3200+ Barton from eghey some time ago to speed things up a bit, it runs fine until I play any games, I have tried increasing the voltage through it and it works fine for a while but it is unstable and eventual ctd or just crashes full stop.
Any thoughts, could the chip be knackered? Any way of telling?
Cheers. 😕

ParticipantNormally if a CPU is knackered it won’t work at all. Ave ya got the latest bios for the m’board?

ParticipantI’ve got the same Mobo as you mate and had similar problems about 3 months back. Is it resetting/crashing more and more frequently? With mine, the problem was to do with a flake of the silver paste used to aid cooling of the chip. I had to remove the chip et al and then replaced it after having cleaned it and reapplied the paste. If you’re still having problems then check this place out:

It’s a damn good forum with loads of posts about the A7N8X mobo. If you can’t find an answer join up and post the problem there, one of the guys there is bound to know.

ParticipantHave alook round the glass core on the cpu ,Eg..

Make sure there isnt any chips down the edge or on the corners.
I have seen many cpus that will run windows ok but will BSOD or CTD when doing something else, this is because when the cpu comes to do a different task the instructions to do that task are held where the crumbled core used to be.
