LONDON (AFP) – Nintendo says it will launch its next-generation Wii game machine in Europe on December 8, six days after its release in Japan where it will cost 100 dollars less.
The Wii will in Europe carry a recommended retail price of 249 euros (315 dollars), Nintendo announced at a press conference in London.
The Wii, which allows users to surf the Internet and has a wireless control, will be released in Japan on December 2 at a price of 25,000 yen (212 dollars), Nintendo said Thursday.
It will be launched in the United States on November 19.
Shaped like a television remote control and engineered with motion sensors and speakers, the Wii control enables users to guide game play by moving as if actually wielding swords, swinging golf clubs, or firing weapons.
Sony was meanwhile to release the more expensive next-generation PlayStation 3 on November 11.

Current currency rates make that 249.00 EUR = 168.301 GBP
No farking way are they going to sell for that cheap. I wonder if they are going to do the normal trick.
In the past when consoles have been launched instead of converting the currency to get the right price what they did was use the rule 1$ +1£, making us pay more.
I would take a bet that they will do this for the Wii. Except it would be 1eur = 1£I am undecided if i will get one yet..
While i think the idea of swishing the controller about in the air to swing a sword etc is novel, i would feel a bit or a retard doing all that crap.
I used to take the pish out of my mother and sister for moving the controller in a jumping up and to the right motion when they were played mario. Or twisting the controller to the right and leaning right going round a corner on a racing game.
Anyone know if they are going to release a normal controller? or are you going to be stuck having to act out the luke vs vader fight to play every game?
