It’s not just bandwith that gets limited, but it is latency (ping times) that get screwed too, and not by personal profile shaping.
That’s what Tiscali did to me. Peak times (evenings) my ping used to go 100-150 compared to 30-40 during the rest of the day. It absolutely kills online gaming. But the turned it on for whole swathes of their network – nothing to do with personal profile shaping.
i thinnk if you are paying 35 quid a month for a 10 meg connection then you should bloody well get 10 meg (normally on NTL in the evening this is rarly more than 3-4 meg but when it flies it really really flies .. on a 4.4 gig download with lots of peers you can manage it in less than an hour off peak!!!)
i must admit that i am tempted to downgrade the connection to the 4 meg as i doubt i will notice that much difference
Why not just offer to pay your broadband provider ‘an unlimited amount of money between £5 to £40′ per month. Then just send ’em £16 and say that there are latency issues with your money. 😉
