Haven’t played any of the others in the series as it kind of just passed me by because of Battlefield/CS, anyway there are some real ‘Die Hard’ BIA players at my current work so I may well dig out the back catalogue from the re-released bargain bin. Just wondered if anyone else had played them and what they thought as the new one looks very promising (gotta love that UT3 engine) and will invariably incorporate all the key squad based cover system elements, and it’s only a few months away.
Preview 2 (different article..honest) http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/brothers-in-arms-hells-highway-/preview/brothers-in-arms-hells-highway/a-2008013093935151022/g-20060412163457740079

February 27, 2008 at 10:11 am #65586crazy hippoParticipanti played the sequel and really didnt like it. it felt too limiting when firing weapons and i got wound up whe although the sight were on an enemy that was 30 yards away i still didnt hit them using 3-5 round bursts. the game adds a weapon inacuracy that felt like you were being gimped.
the keeping the heads down on enemies wasnt anything special either and having icons appearing over all enemies heads just to indicate how suppressed they were felt silly.
a work mate raves about the games but they just left me feeling a bit meh!

February 28, 2008 at 9:25 am #65592WipersParticipantOh yes, this should be good. If they ever release it… 🙄 The main complaint of the previous 2 games was the quality of the graphics but they seemed to have sorted that with the UT3 engine. If you like squad work with a bit of COH strategy in a FPS format then this is the nads.
Hippo – you can always turn off the suppression indicators and other ‘aids’ in the options – makes for a much better game – and I think the weapon inaccuracy is fairly… well accurate 😉
Not tried the MP though.

September 16, 2008 at 7:03 am #65596XDCiNSANEParticipantOctober 13, 2008 at 11:58 pm #65597XDCJuDgE-MenTaLParticipantPicked Collectors Edition of this up last night (coz it was on offer same price), so I’ve only given it a few hours grace. I wasn’t bowled over by the start but once it got into it things improved and it’s plodding along ok. GFX aren’t amazing when you consider it’s the UT3 engine but they are certainly passable. The AI isn’t the best either, this game is way too easy (so far).
I got up to maybe the fith mission on “Veteran” sadly there’s a harder mode thats greyed out (WHY DO THEY DO THAT FFS) Ok, I could disable the HUD indicators but that really wouldn’t make it much harder tbh. Your teams are so obsolete, the enemy never try to flank you. For example I put an MG team behind a wall and they supress the enemy guys but I watch for nearly 5 minutes and they haven’t shot one enemy. So then I then pick off all the enemy from somewhere else with my M1 Rifle through the Iron sights no need to flank and we move on. Rinse and repeat. I get a Bazooka team that can’t destroy the gun nest in the tower because we aren’t close enough for the icon to change to “attack this you dicks”. I’m hoping there’s going to be some variation but so far there’s been none (if you discount the building clearing mission I had to do on my own, oh big change FYI I’VE BEEN DOING IT ALL ON MY OWN SO FAR).
I can’t believe how easy this is (not saying that to be a smug cnut either). Annoyingly after I returned from dinner, my save game has gone. It would seem that unless you go through the ESC menu to the main menu and then quit your game isn’t saved. If you stupidly take the Exit game option from the ESC menu you lose everything you have done for the session (despite the “Checkpoint Saved messages all through the game” WTF????ok rant over. It’s still reasonably enjoyable and I’ll play it through. Having not played the others I’ve nothing to compare it to, the destructible scenery is a nice to have but I just wish there was more of a challenge. Ok that still may yet happen, but so far I haven’t died once because all you need to do is hide for a bit and I’ve lost one man who came back to life at the next checkpoint. For that reason realism fans may very well be disappointed 🙂
I’ve just read the review on Eurogamer and I have to say I’m pretty much in agreement with him.
haven’t dived into the MP yet, but by all accounts there’s a very good reason it’s been off limits to the press during the development phase.
Shame.
EDIT: Ok played a bit more and it does get better, still a bit easy and not that varied but certainly better. Church mission was tidy, died quite a bit at last yay!!! Think I was more pissed off before that I lost my save but still think 7/10 a la Eurogamer is a fair score for it. I suppose it can’t be that bad if I haven’t stopped playing it ;p
October 14, 2008 at 6:56 am #65598XDCiNSANEParticipantagree with you fella, I only stopped playing because I gave my TV to G/F so as to get me house decorated, once new TV in I’ll have another bash.. glad I TBIB though, cant see it lasting meself .. as you say, shame 🙁
Eurogamer eh.. interesting, will look into that, get kinda fed up of overseas sites sometimes
