Lets just see how many people we can get for this before setting a proper date, but ideally I’d like to aim for next Sunday. Below is a link to a working torrent for Rogue Spear, weighing in at ~750mb, and it’s pretty well seeded atm (I’ll also continue to seed this until the end of the month). I’ve tested it, and it works on XP with some minor tweaking (compatibility mode set to windows 98), and while I don’t know how it will cope on Vista or windows 7, I’m hoping the same fix will work.

And here are the instructions:
1. Download game and patch above.
2. Mount image using daemon tools
3. Install game
4. Install patch
5. Locate game folder, right click on the RogueSpear.exe file, select properties. Under the compatibility tab, tick the box “Run in compatibility mode” and select windows 98 from the drop down menu.
6. Run game, and setup your preferences through the options menu
7. Test game in Training – Room Training – Double Room
8. Any problems with graphics, lower the resolution to 1200×800 (I had problems with the highest res).The more people we can get for this the better, and please don’t worry about it if you’ve not played the game before, we’ll split up the teams fairly between people who have and haven’t played before. It will run on any crappy system you may feel you have, as it was made 10 years ago, and in terms of gameplay you’ll find it similar to COD4, RO, and Insurgency. You’ll not be completely at home with RS if you’ve just played those games, but it’s not hard to pick up from there, and really half the battle is learning the maps, which are mostly small and easy to pickup. The best thing about this game is that it works even with small numbers, so even if we don’t get to fill the server (and by server I mean one of us will be hosting) we can still have a good night on this. If we can fill the server then great, and I’m sure it won’t disappoint as the first installment of XDC’s birthday celebrations 🙂

Oh and when someone else installs this, could you let me know, as I’d like to test it out properly in multiplayer so we pick up on any problems early, and can hopefully solve them before everyone turns up for a game.

I’d like to play – but I have a ball ache of a download limit on my shitty ‘chookter tinternet service’. If some1 would post me a cd with the iso and patches on it then i would be there!

Are you suggesting that someone should send you a pirated game? I thought you had an issue with that sort of thing?!!

Paddy are you available again tonight to try and get a server up? I was too drunk last night to realise the solution to our problem. Oh and I do apologise for my booting from that server where we could have maybe got a game, but in the cold light of day I think I must’ve been team killing, and not “kicking ass” 😆 It was the game before that was FFA, and I vaguely remember a blue box around my start location, indicating I was on a team, and vaguely remember killing a number of blue uniformed players…oops
I used to be good at the game, honest.should be about, i’ll jump on TS when I am. got to say it was a bit weird playing it again, but good fun. need to get some more people online though…..

Tried this twice last night but running into same problem I had last time when copying the COH stuff, and I’m not sure whether it’s my drive, Nero, or just the batch of DVD’s which are fucked. I’ll try again tonight but do you have a USB stick by any chance which you could post over?

I got distracted by my flatmate last night mate, but if you fancy testing it out online this evening, jump on TS again, I’ll be home and about online from about half 5 or 6.
Ah… well my flatmate was downloading “Art” so I couldn’t get a stable connection. Ended up watching True Blood instead… A-Mazing!
I got 700+kbs on this torrent the other day, I’m seeding so should get some decent speeds!
oh, and it doesn’t work on Vista, at least not for me, but some people have got it work apparently.
I’m downloading it now, should be finished when I get up, but I won’t be testing it till late tomorrow night as I’m hanging out at my hobby shop till 10 most likely, but I’ll be in touch.
I got it downloaded no problem and installed too. I’d forgotten how different it was o.o
I may be able to try it out later tonight, depends how tired I am when I get home.
