I turned on the draw render fps trickery in the console the other night.. im getting 30-40 fps. could that be causing me issues (i dont want to believe that i just suck ass).
Would it help If i go for a new graphics card? or will that just shift the bottleneck?
Current system is:
8800GT
E8400 Core2Duo 3.0 GHz
3GB RAM
Win7 Ultimate
Cheap Kingston SSDthis is all in a pretty small case, so a max length of any new card would have to be 9″ and max of double width slot.
Power requirements will have to be thought about too..looks like this might fit the bill?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-100-MS&tool=3
but will it perform?or would this be better?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-156-OKNovember 15, 2011 at 2:05 pm #80616XDC_WolfParticipanti think it will be a processor bottleneck and a new graphics card will have little difference, I had the same with bfbc2 util I upgraded my processor, BF£ is supposed to be a quad core game!
November 15, 2011 at 2:20 pm #80617Cha0sEngineParticipanti think i could go with a Q8400 in my mobo.. (£120 at scan)
(mobo manual states… “Intel LGA 775 Celeron® , Pentium® 4, Pentium® D, Core TM 2 Series”)http://ark.intel.com/compare/38512,33910
It draws an extra 30W though..
Is there a way to measure current current draw?
Should i move to the PC Help forum?
November 15, 2011 at 2:22 pm #80618nOmParticipantAs wolf said… both, 1 v 1 I will always lose a gun fight, slight mouse lag which I think is because of the minute slow downs which I think are CPU related.
On a side note are we going to be able to have 64 player sized maps but for 32 ppl? Feel the maps/ flags don’t allow for flanking, loving the game but it feels a tad frantic.
November 15, 2011 at 2:24 pm #80619Cha0sEngineParticipantwhats the spec of your system then nom?
November 15, 2011 at 2:43 pm #80620Cha0sEngineParticipantdamnit.. if consoles had keyboard and mouse id buy one!! ggggrrrrrrrr
To be able to suck ass at a decent frame rate im looking at
new PSU : £65
new CPU : £120
new GFX :~£100Maybe ill stick to sucking at a lower frame rate?
If im doing it ill need to do it all in one go… There is only so much mileage you can get out of.. “… nothing dear, im just tidying the wires…” 🙂

look over there dear….its emmerdale !!
November 15, 2011 at 2:56 pm #80622XDCMcQueenParticipantIm playing on an QX6850 (old 775 socket) 6gig of DDR2 and a 580GTX (i had an 8800gtx) ive only upgraded the vga card and im getting over 100fps stood still and 60/70fps when loads of action on screen, i was going to upgrade to an i5 with matching board and DDR3 but dont feel i have to as the FPS is decent imo.
November 15, 2011 at 2:59 pm #80623Cha0sEngineParticipantthe other option is..
build a complete replica PC with all new i7 processor etc etc.. clone the existing disks so all her apps are on it and just slot it into place.. having done the swap by taking it out to the garage for its “tidy up”…
its a bit of a drastic plan for a game tho.. hmm.. (goes off to price up the bits…) 😉

feck.. £300 for the processor.. 😕
seems to do the job tho.November 15, 2011 at 3:31 pm #80625XDC_WolfParticipantto quote doc “buy cheap, buy twice. och aye the noo!”. But I normally disregard Doc. Personally I would /did replace the mobo for future proofing (!) and get am i5 or i3 processor for cheapness, you can always add a better processor later but a decent i5 will do the trick nicely. Of course this means new RAM probably and maybe new gfx card (just checked and yours is the minimum listed!). Given no case and psu/drives etc, could be yours for about £400-500.
If you do that check the other posts about PCs for BF3, but I would recommend a z68 chipset motherboard (supposed to support the next gen “ivybridge” processors) and SSd caching (of minimal interest to most people though!) as well as Virtu stuff which is excellent for video decoding/2d applications but is a bit complicated and gaming doesn’t really get an advantage from.
November 15, 2011 at 3:47 pm #80626Cha0sEngineParticipant…so to implement operation “quick swap” were looking at a minimum of £500 + a gfx card.
its got the z68 chipset you mention so might last a wee bit longer.ahhh.. fantasy land is a great place 😥
November 15, 2011 at 4:41 pm #80627Beer_MonsterParticipantHow about the best 2nd hand CPU off flea bay your mobo will allow & overclock the nuts off it, then look at the lower end of the new gen Gfx cards? £ 150 – £200 off the top of my head?
Edit.
Very few 2nd hand Q8400 on fleabay – £122 new + 6770 gfx – £84.
Though even with my i5 & 4GB Ram I get windows warning messages even now and again about RAM overuseage, so just upgrading the CPU & Gfx might not be a cure all for BF3 🙁

I think Matt was going to look into upping the server to 40 or 48 player and upping the size of maps to large. This is of course dependant on the number of server donations we get.
I feel this would give a decent balance without the frantic free for allness of the 64 player servers.

q6600 @ 3.2g
4 gigs ddr2 ram
ati 4890 1 gig gfxMay try what McQueen has done, upgrade gfx then the rest of the system when needed/spare cash.
May take a while.. no dolla 🙁
May need to spend my time defending rather than attacking me thinks……….camping fag that i am 😉
November 15, 2011 at 5:47 pm #80629Cha0sEngineParticipantLol.. im upgrading TO that 🙁 ill join you in the camp
