Any suggestions on a new server browser, pref one that works like ASE did.
I refuse to continue to use the POS excuse for an in game browsers.
Sooner EA wake up and realise that most gamers hate Gaheyspy browsers the better.
May 24, 2006 at 11:57 am #25294airmessyParticipantHave you tried useing it now…
Its well and truely farked.
when you first look for servers it tells you there is players on. You click the server to refresh it and you ping ot the server goes in 6 figures.. Click again and there is no one on the server.
Its more farked now that it eva has been.
And the refresh button has totaly dissapeared. Only update server list is there now.
May 24, 2006 at 12:19 pm #25295RonathonParticipantYeah I had to use it last night 🙁
Lucky that by just adding the name filter ‘Multiplay’ you can still get a good selection of servers. No more queueing option to get on XDC tho and I’ll doubt I’ll manualy sit there and update the list waiting for a slot to open. That’s even if the browser works properly and shows an open.
Also heard that EA/Dice altered the 1.3exe in order to kill off the alternative ranking system, many are speculating that this was because ARS severs don’t have to be rented from official ranked server vendors and with all the new mods hitting the scene they could stand to lose money.
May 24, 2006 at 12:34 pm #25296RonathonParticipantRight, been looking at xfire – which seems to be supported by EA.
Can anyone tell me if this is set up like ASE, as in
May 24, 2006 at 12:46 pm #25297TurksMeisterParticipantwhy dont you just use the favorites menu?
Xfire is good too, but i prefer to have as few progs in the backgroud as possible.
May 24, 2006 at 12:55 pm #25298RonathonParticipantThats all very well but by the look of it the in game browser only browses for the current game loaded ie BF2, SF or EF.
So if I fire up the PC and wanna play BF2 that’s all fine and dandy until my favourits are full or not running maps that I want to play. If I then decide I wanna have a bash at SF I have to reload that and update the servers again.
Is the favourit list in game even permanent?
What I require is a flexable tool (ooo eer Misses) which is exactly what the in game browser aint.
So does xfire work along the same lines as ASE?
May 24, 2006 at 1:11 pm #25299MugworthParticipantxfire is different to ase in my view but has been popular since the yahoo ppl who took over ASE never bothered to update the query for bf2 to show all the players.
a similar program that is free and alot of open source stuff is kquery from kquery.com
I am busy trying to establish the new query format as not everyone who uses my rcon program has modmanager installed and so can only view the players names and not their current stats 🙁
cheeky of ea to do that
May 24, 2006 at 3:03 pm #25300WipersParticipantASE/Yahoo will go down in history as an textbook example of what happens to your customers when you sell out to the ‘Man’ like a cheap, scrofulous, pox-ridden whore.
Paid them for a ‘lifetime’ license, all well and good. They sell out to Yahoo, yahoo decides to make everyone re-register and lo and behold they can’t find any record of my lifetime license. The license code is no good, they say they want the order number (long gone) 🙄 So buy a years license just in time for BF2s release only to find the support has gone and games are taking weeks to support. Now this. Wankers. And they can take their useless fookin toolbar out of Adobe Reader too. 👿
May 24, 2006 at 3:24 pm #25301RonathonParticipantI love they way the site markets it as the WORLDS #1 SERVER BROWSER.
With a massive list of games that it no longer works with….
I’m sure I read somewhere that the original programer is retain by Yahoo, but that he’s currently in his final year at school, hence no updates.
Not sure how true that is.
But you’re right, ASE if it had been marketed and supported properly, it could have been a gheyspy beater. It has (or had) everything you needed minus the crap (and possible spywear I here) that comes with GS.
Tis a sad tale.
May 24, 2006 at 5:39 pm #25302MugworthParticipantYeah it is a shame as ase was updated on a regular basis 🙁
