Sorry if someone’s already posted about this, but something that might be of some interest to people is another free release BF, which looks like BF2, just with slightly touched up gfx.

Anyway they appear to be giving beta keys away quite liberally, and you can try your luck by signing up here: http://battlefield.play4free.com/
Just managed to get a key for this off the twitter channel, so likely give it a bash during the week if anyone else has it?
hmm ok it’s a beta, but it’s pretty crap. They’ve taken BF2, tried to combine it with some elements of BC2, and come up with something ridiculously sluggish, and I don’t know what the fuck they’ve done with the control system. Going to perservere with it since Line said he’s got it installed now as well, but not looking too promising so far.
Line’s shown some interest in IRC, but after my first impression, it’ll take a lot of motivation to try it out again. Probably still will mind you, but BC2 and vietnam are obviously much better options.
