I’ve seen the movie a few times.. what confused me though *and I may be wrong* BUT.. in the movie they met the kickass girl and her brother at the beginning.. BUT the series is obviously based on events before Serenity the movie… BUT there in the series as if they have been pals for years..

In the first episode of the series they meet River and the Doc, (who are on the run from the guys with blue hands) which follows on from the first part of the film. It’s a flashback scene.
The first scene of the film is an operative of the Earth government watching a recording of Rivers escape from the facility she was held in. The recording was made before the events of the series, but the operative is watching it after the events of the series. You know how you can get these things called ‘VCRs’ that record things so you can watch them later? Same thing.

nah I think I get it now.. so I’m assuming she was captured in the series and in serenity they save her… I could have sworn in the film it was like they’d only just met though :/
Might have to watch it again when i’m off next week.. oh and download the series tonight for viewing too.. I must watch it from the beginning 🙂

No, she was in an institution before the series. Simon rescued her just prior to the start of the series and then buys passage at the start of the series. The film comes after the events of the series. At the beginning of the film someone is watching a recording of Simon & River’s escape from the institution. By the time of the events in the film Simon and River have been on the ship for some time, you’re just confused.
