OK argument time 🙂
The following are the server settings we can modify (at first glance).
Server Name – Currently set to =XDC= Battlefield 3 Server 32 players (boring)
Autobalance (on quickmatch)
Friendly Fire (on for hardcore off for quickmatch)
KillCam (off for hardcore)
Mini Map (off for hardcore)
hud (off for hardcore)
CrossHair (off for hardcore)
3d Spotting (off for hardcore)
Mini Map Spotting (off for hardcore)
Nametag over players heads (off for hardcore)
Regenerate Health (off for hardcore)
3rd Person Camera (on for normal mode)
Infantry only Mode
Vehicle Spawn Delay (0-100 100% = normal)
Soldier Health (0-100 100% = normal)
player repawn delay; specified in percent (less than 100% = custom mode)
man-down time; specified in percent (less than 100% = custom mode)
bullet damage; specified in percent (less than 100% = custom mode)
spawn on the squad leader (on for hardcore)
Round Start Player Count (8 is default)
Round Restart Player Count (4 is default)
Kick Idle Players (seconds)
Ban Idle players for “x” rounds
Limit Maximum PlayersEverything is currently set to normal or default, and for the last 3 options default is 300 secs for the idle kick timer, and blank fields for ban idle players and limit max players (I think we only want one Max…sorry).
Now what I’d like to know, and hopefully some people with time to kill over night and during the day tomorrow can maybe find out, is whether 1 hardcore setting automatically sets the rest – as was the case with BC2, despite our efforts.
Personally I’d prefer not to put the server on hardcore, at least until we’ve tried the vanilla game out for a bit, but some of the options may become desirable at some point. Note a point about 3d spotting btw, before this is roundly criticised. It has been tweaked so that if you are under cover, the spotting doesn’t show (I think this applies both to you spotting then retreating to cover, and also you being spotted by the enemy and you retreat to cover – in both cases the spot icon over the player spotted disappears). I believe there is also a very short timer on the spot icon as well. If spotting is an issue for ppl I suggest testing this before making a decision because EA has responded to criticism of it and if the tweaks I’ve read about have been implemented well, then it could be a good thing to have on our server. Anyway discuss.
Oh and someone come up with a name.

October 26, 2011 at 10:12 am #79692XDCiNSANEParticipantHc for me, makes it more interesting 🙂
October 26, 2011 at 11:35 am #79693XDC_WolfParticipantSorry Matt, just read your settings, do we really want FF off? I’m not that fussed about HC whilst we learn the maps. Also the thing with BFBC2 was that if yiu changed something like having 3d spotting off but left HC mode disabled it would show up in the filters as HC, take it that’s what you want to test?
I have th e new version of procon for BF3 available at

October 26, 2011 at 11:38 am #79694XDCiNSANEParticipantGood shout, hc off till maps learnt
October 26, 2011 at 11:43 am #79695XDC_WolfParticipantturns out that procon might not be working! Certainly can’t set HC mode to see if the server settings work and apparently it only loads one map, I will look into it this afternoon though.
October 26, 2011 at 12:02 pm #79696XDC_WolfParticipantWith the settings as you suggest Matt it isn’t listed as HC but as “custom”, so if you filter for “normal” it won’t come up! Not been able to turn HC on at the moment, not sure if it’s procon or BF3, although I suspect procon
October 26, 2011 at 12:04 pm #79697XDC_WolfParticipantalso can’t seem to turn crosshair on on the procon console, don’t remember tiurning iot off. I can’t test because you need two players min before starting a round!

Just to clarify, again, the settings above are the default settings, and probably what we were playing last night. There is no need to apologise to me about a disagreement, they are up for discussion. The question I wanted clarified is the one you describe.
Apart from a general bias against hardcore, from other games, my only view regarding settings is try the default first before deciding what might improve the game.
October 28, 2011 at 1:41 pm #79699AlzirKeymasterJust to follow on from what we’ve been discussing on ts, and update everyone, the default settings are what we need in order to make the server available for quick match joiners. So far I have no issue with any of these settings though, except for the ridiculously annoying minimum of eight players required to start a round. Hopefully with uk releae today, the wait will not be as long again. Over time it should require less and les of xdc prssent to start it as it’ll hopefully find it’s way onto peoples favourites. We should start a petition to ea in the meantime though to give us something to do during startup.
October 28, 2011 at 5:36 pm #79700crazy hippoParticipantOk am on my phone so where are the server details? Can we get them on the front page to pimp them out please?
October 28, 2011 at 5:45 pm #79701AlzirKeymasterGood point, could someone copy them into a sticky in this forum…i am also on my phone.
