If the problem is with our ISPs’ packet shaping (and which ones dont these days?) can you ask Sherlock Fecking Holmes over at Multiplay:

    a) Why everyone can play without problems on other servers, even ones as far away as Germany;
    b) Why those experiencing lag spikes on our server get them at the same time (and are able to comment on them in TS).

While you’re at it you could ask them about the regular TS server disconnects we’ve been having since we moved to the dedicated (or is that my ISP too?).

Thanks Pharty – appreciate you doing this, honest 😉

So chaps, what do you want me to do? see what Gonzo says or wait untill we can ensure the webhosting is sorted out?

I have sent this to MP

    Hi Matt

Thanks for that, however I am not sure if the problem is just ISP related as the lag spikes happen to all players at the same time (we can hear everyone on TS)

Everyone can play on other servers without problems, including ones as far away as Germany.

We habe also been getting regular TS Server disconnects since moving to the dedicated box, this was not a problem with the old server.

    Cheers

Ooo theres a shock.. Its always the user or the game.. never the server.. I still say there bitter because we banned them all for being [LAW] whores in BFV on our server at the time!

Wait a minute, are they actually saying that 1% packet loss is something we should take up with our ISP? Is that really true?

File 4 is a common example of NTL’s network, they cannot handle the throughput so are packetshaping everything, meaning packets are dropped.

    for example | bre-bb-a-so-130-0.inet.ntl.com – 33 | 4312 | 2927 | 31 | 101 | 1312 | 94 |

That’s the only point I agree with, virgin media have been shit since I’ve moved to them, and finally I have a decent explaination (and solution).

    Sean,

Do you have the IP’s of the clients?

If they enable wan ping on the clients then we can smokeping them and check for problems and prioritize routes to them and see if there is an underlying problem.

The VirginMedia thing must be specific to certain areas then?

As I get great pings to both MPUK and Rackage, 12ms – 20ms normally

I don’t doubt it, I actually recommended them because I used their network (or what is now their network) when I was in Dundee. I’m really disappointed with them here though, I used plusnet before and pinged around 30 🙁

Pharty I’d be interested to see how that would improve my pings, and might even let me play COD. IP pmed.

Alzir I had ping issues like u have when I was at uni with NTL about 5 years ago lol.

had them for 1 year and not a single problem, next year moved to another house at uni on the otherside of the uni and started getting crazy ping issues, but web browsing and downloading was fine.

spent a lot of time on phone queues and so on to get them to sort it which in the end resulted in them refunding me for the calls (although the calls were made on their network lol) and they moved me to a new cable branch as the one I was on was oversubscribed. also they did some maintenance work that was partly the cause for the problem! so you never know!

http://www.cablehell.com I think is the site and forums where theres lots of info about troubleshooting and trying to get stuff sorted with cable internet. also there are mods and people from VM who post on their in an unoffical capacity to help people out :), found it quite useful myself (used to be called ntlhell.com lol)

I just think its funny that bluesnake had problems with VM and now doing better on ADSL and I had bad problems with ADSL and now on cable VM and its perfect lol!

    Chaps

I need more IP addies. You also need to enable WAN Ping on your routers.

I have so far sent Alzir’s IP to Multiplay

    Phart

PS: The server is due for renewal by Saturday. In order not to cause any disruption I am going to renew for the time being

probably a good idea phart as we dont have the web hosting sorted out yet and getting it all set up on the new host may cause us to not have a server for a short while lol.

I am not having any problems with our servers but my IP is 86.13.172.168 and I have turned on the WAN ping response on my router

OK Chaps, this is wot they have to say so far…

    Hi,

86.26.246.250 does not have reply to ping on wan enabled meaning we can’t do much testing however the initial route shows it’s fine

I have rebooted and done alot of diagnosis on the machine, lets see if that sorts it.

Also please see a traceroute back to my router for comparison.

Is the first one the IP I gave you because although it looks like the servers/bams I’ve been going through, it doesn’t match my current IP?? If my connection wasn’t responding to WAN ping, it’s because I only saw the post at 3 or 4 this afternoon past, but I enabled it right away.

Oh and as for his traceroute, can you please ask him who the fuck his host is? It may have been there just for reference, but still I can only dream of that kind of connection 😯
