While playing 2142 with Ventrillo running last night, Ventrillo closed its self causing the game to minimize to the taskbar, then when i maximized the game and rejoined the action, i had things missing from the game, like no map, no sights in the HUD, no health/ammo stats or anything?! 😕

Has anyone else had something similar?….or do you think its just one of those querky things that happen every now and then? 🙄

Never heard that one before. Sounds like XP glitched; a reboot should solve that kind of thing.

just on the matter of ventrilo, when I use Ventrilo Bf seems to lag more than usual.
I have checked the usual settings like the sound quality etc etc anyone else having this issue?

    Don’t know wheels 🙁

I’ve definitely been experiencing more lag recently on the server but I can’t say whether its Ventrilo, the 1.20 patch, Multigheyness or just a local adsl problem.

Signal – your problem should be fairly easy to pinpoint – run BF with Vent and check for lag. Then close Vent and join server again. If there is no lag then its probably a Vent problem.

It makes sense that if we are now using better codecs then more bandwidth is going to be used. How that will effect inidividuals if at all is a bit unknown.

I think Ventrilo is using a lot more bandwidth than the old TS server, but it’s still trivial, and I believe (I got the faith!) that it can be adjusted downwards in the client if you have a really slow connection.

I spent some of the weekend running high-quality TS and Ventrilo simultaneously whilst playing, and those progs were solid.

Last night I had Ventrilo running, a second PC on my home network running a GameSpy-registered internet ArmA server, and me playing Arma online, too. It was a heavenly experience on an ADSL 6.5mbps/450kbps line.

-> Make sure you have installed the December ’06 update to DirectX 9.0c.

    -Fenix out

Vent, as always, sucks. On every machine and every connection it has lagged my computer to shit, continually drops out and tbh, the sound quality may be slightly better, but it was more than clear enough on TS, which also has a friendlier interface.

The only advantage of Vent is that I can have myself anounced as “wanker” when I enter a room. Apart from that I would rather go back to TS!

I did a little experimenting after you left the server last night and tried playing on the XDC server without running Ventrilo. It was slightly better (not much) but it was less laggy without it running. But I still played crap. I guess there must have been lots of people online on Sunday night using Tiscali, although Ventrilo didn’t help matters.

Wolf, for a small fee I would happy to anounce you as ‘Wanker’ whenever you enter a room. Drop me a pm and we’ll discuss payment options.
