This is a big one for a change, where they’ve videoed a presentation Rocket gave in the states recently, and the follow up Q&A session. The whole thing is actually quite interesting if you’re wanting to get into game but obviously watching an hour and a half of this sort of thing means you’re either super keen, or you’re lying in bed on a Saturday morning with a hangover 😉 Read on then if you want a brief, and lazily written, overview.

The first half an hour is a basic demonstration and description of some features, including a preview of the inventory system (around about 7 minutes ish). Amongst other things, throughout the video he builds a gradual picture of how the base building will be implemented, although basic and they are at an early stage in terms of that development.

He gives us some information regarding their current roadmap:

He’s away to climb Everest at the moment, and in his absence he has the team focusing primarily on the server architecture which is all he wants completed before they release the Alpha. He expects to be able to release this around about June, but obviously that’s not set in stone. He is keen not to overstate the condition the Alpha will be in on release and notes a few problems which will likely still be in the game. The first is that zombies won’t be perfect, and although he doesn’t expect them ever to be perfect, they will be better than in the mod. The second is that they are still working on a lot of the vehicles and they will likely be kept out of the alpha until around September time. To go back to base building, they hope to slowly implement some features which will lead to it, but realistically we’re talking December time before that’s in the game in any real way. The idea is to develop the game in the same way as something like minecraft, building the game slowly over time.

Oh and one other thing he mentioned, near the end of the video, was that on release of the Alpha there will be maybe 50000 keys released, in order to manage the initial population, and not overload the architecture. He was asked how these would be given out, and he sounded serious in his answer that they may just make them available with no announcement. I’m not sure where you’d get them, but I guess it means we’ll all have to keep our eyes peeled on forums and maybe reddit around June time.

Anyway, I’ll maybe edit this later to make more sense, as I’m feeling a bit lazy right now, and I really need a coffee….
