    Just had a thought….

Is there anything in the terms & conditions of the XDC site hosting precluding listing people’s personal details without their knowledge?

It’s not quite the same as we are not a database system, but if we were we would certainly be breaching the Data Protection Act.

Sorry to be serious for a sec 😛 I may be talking total and utter bollocks.

Not something I was willing to admit to when Legit raised it, but can’t say I am completely comfortable with the entire thing. I mean, it’s funny, but it’s also a little bit naughty.

It has made me chuckle though. I’ve come into this a bit late. I take it this person posted their details by mistake on some sort of website?

Think someone got an email with the info in, it’s all there in the posts.

A forum is actually a normal database file with a fancy front end.

Well yes, but it’s not a customer type of database such as say a bank or company from which you had acquired services, and that they keep your details in order to provide that service. I.e. we a re not a commercial organisation using the details for commercial gain.

Hadn’t read the thread before posting earlier… Well, sad tho the guy might be, outing him like this could have major repercussions for him and then who knows what else.

Stop being such nancy boys, there is no legal ambiguity here. If your fears are founded on fact then the press pointing out that Tony Blair currently lives at 10 Downing Street would not be possible. We are not a business, therefore the Data Protection Act does not apply. Do not delete the address. Only gheys delete addresses, FACT!

I didn’t say the DP act applied – I said it would if we were a commercial operation.

But the T’s & C’s of XDC’s contract with the website host may need checking – which is what I said originally.

Personally I would be well pissed off if someone posted my address on a public bulletin board, and would probably pursue the webshost/ISP for breach of privacy and demand they removed it.

The No10 argument does not apply – it’s a public building, not a private residence.

Better get those bastards who print the phone book locked up then, the fuckers print names, addresses and telephone numbers. Does this now mean we can have the 118 twats put up against a wall and shot?
