Ok so first of all, for the benefit of the rest of XDC let me just explain that I’m posting this thread to provide more info on top of what has been posted on XDC’s outfit description page in Planetside 2, as the game restricts us to only 1000 characters, and as you all know I always prefer a wall of text 😉 We only want a particular type of person or player, hence the length of this, but there is a TL:DR version at the end of this post anyway.
Anyway, if you’ve found your way here from game, welcome and feel free to introduce yourself, we’re a pretty friendly bunch (just don’t get too close to Paddy)…. Also thanks for taking your interest this far, however there are a couple of things you will need to know about us before you pick XDC as your outfit.
Most important is our recruitment policy, which is basically to offer membership to people we get along with. This is something which works both ways, and it means we’ll have to take some time to get to know each other before accepting any application. You’ll be more than welcome to roll with our squad in game and join us on TS for as long as this takes, you’ll get an invite once we decide, and you can accept once you’ve decided yourself. The only other facet here is that you have to be over 18.
Our style.
Obviously in PS2 there’s little point in joining a group you can’t actually squad up with, so the other consideration is whether or not you can handle/enjoy our style of play. This is something you’ll need to decide for yourself, as we don’t particularly care how good you are at the game, but as we’re not going to change our style, there’s little point in you joining us if you don’t enjoy what we do.
Our approach developed around a dislike of zergs and fights which are meatgrinder clusterfucks. If you ever see us in a zerg, it’s because we got there first and are seeing out a job which we’ve put a lot of effort into, and you’ll never see us hang about in a meatgrinder for long. We do sometimes try to break a stalemate, by causing a distraction for the enemy zerg and trying to split it’s attention, but if it seems like our faction are more concerned sitting in safety behind hills, farming rather than playing the objective, then we’ll move on pretty quickly.
A few of us have been playing this game since early beta, across all factions, on almost all servers, and from that experience we have come to detest what often passes as teamwork amongst the majority of PS2 outfits and platoons. Most of the time this consists of simply following a waypoint, changing to a specific class, and/or redeploying when asked to. These groups actually pat themselves on the back for doing these things, and often rate how good they are by how quickly a squad or platoon can redeploy on demand. This is basic bare minimum stuff and ignores the most important factor for any squad, which you rarely see in these groups, and that’s cohesion. If you roll with our squads, we try to keep it close knit, running between points as a group and defending an area together when we can. This allows us to take on and defeat much greater numbers regularly, and our goal is to create an outfit where this is is what passes as the standard, along with the basics.
Given all of the above, our choice of fight is determined by where it looks like we’re needed most – is there a stalemate we feel we can end, a defence needing reinforcement which we can influence, or is it possible for us to make a push and open a new front? Secondly, but almost as important, is whether a fight looks like a challenge, and this often means we go into an area completely outnumbered. There are plenty of outfits in game which say they fight outnumbered, but only a handful are like us and actively seek those situations. If we’re not outnumbered, we need to be up against a capable group in order to feel like we’re not wasting our time, otherwise we’re no better than farmers. There are times when you have to join an evenly contested fight or endure a boring cap, but those are the exception rather than the rule.
This approach can be a bit of a baptism of fire for newer players, but if you can cope with it, and have the patience to endure a few deaths, you’ll end up a better player for it. We rarely persevere with no win situations, but sometimes you have to hit your head off a brick wall of enemies a few times before you can find a way through. Only apply to us if you think you can handle that.
TL:DR;
Anyway, just to wrap up, let me just provide a TL:DR summary…
– Recruitment is currently open
– new players welcome, as are vets.
– We don’t care how good you are at the game, we care about how well we get on with you, and you with us.
– We don’t farm, we don’t zerg, and we prefer being outnumbered. Do not apply unless you’re comfortable with that – you’ll not have fun unless you are.
– We offer true teamwork at the squad level.
– If you are tired of meat grinders and zergs in this game, or you don’t understand why people play this game, we offer an alternative playstyle you may want to try before giving up on the game. How to apply.
Either post in this thread with your in game character name, and we’ll contact you when online, or message any of our members in game. I’m Salzvs on Cobalt, but others can help if you can’t get hold of me. Below is a link to a list of members:
Alternatively you can pop into our TS channel, the details for which you can find here:
You may want to give us a shout before hand though, just so we don’t mistake you for a troll.
Finally, my youtube channel showcases some of our most recent fights, and should provide you with a good idea of how we operate.

There’s also a lets play series of videos there showing a full session where I team up with a new player on Connery and show him how the game works (episode 4 is the most exciting).
