is there a way of telling tf2 you want to use a certian res (as there is with many other games)..

i want to use the max for my monitor (something X 1050) (22″ widescreen).. and I cant select this in the game setup bit.

    any ideas?

As far as I am aware its down to the graphics driver. The list of resoulutions I got was different depending on the driver installed lol, although it should normally be picked up from your graphics cards abilities and your monitors abilities.

I would thought widescreen would be fine as theres various options for widescreen and so on in TF2.

I am running at 1280×1024 quite nicely on my 21″ Sony Triniton monitor 🙂 not much of a fan of these widescreen screens yet.

u shld be able to select widescreen, theres a box that allows you to choose the ratios, im pretty sure, or allows widescreen resolutions – im on 1680 by 1050, so it shld cater for you!

ok.. maybe as mugworth says it looks at yer hardware and decides if youre worthy or not.. coz the monitor is able to handle 1680×1050 like yours.. but the graphics card may not be able to.. (7900GT).. soon to be an 8800GT

under the graphics section there is also a drop down box that has different screen ratios, you will need to go through those and then check the resolution drop down selection to find yours.

this confused me for a while when i got my widescreen monitor for the first time.

i doubt that you 7900 would not be able to run your monitors resolution.
what res is your desktop background set to? if its the monitors native res then it should run games in that res as well

worked with my 7950, so yeah in theory i cldnt see the 7900 not allowing it, hmmm – also, iv never experienced games running in the same res as desktop, they always notch it down, most will default to 1024 by 768 – so ul always have to set widescreen or set it to the higher res
