How to waste a few minutes in work – come up with an XDC idea that’ll never happen and post pointless thread about it 😉
While we seemed to have solved the NAT negotiation problem amongst ourselves, we don’t know yet whether this is going to provide a roundabout solution for playing vs other people online, and even if it does, our options are going to be limited. So how about having some games vs each other this weekend, rather than playing skirmish all the time, which is good, but not anywhere near as good as proper multiplay.
We don’t have to, but I thought that we could add a little spice to proceedings by making it slightly competitive and playing a mini league amongst those of us playing. I reckon we’re all pretty close to each other in terms of ability at the moment, judging by the scores in skirmish, and there’s potential for some epic 1v1’s. I’m open to suggestions, but I was thinking we could organise it as a league, with each person playing each other twice on one map – once as an allied side, once as axis. 1 point per round won, and use ticket difference to determine match winner if 1-1 for an extra point. I imagine we could get at least 4 of us playing this over the weekend, and at the end of it we could play a 2v2 best of 3 maps, with league champ and 4th making a team vs 2nd and 3rd, from the league, making up the other.
We’d play the 1v1’s in rounds, with a different map each round to mix things up, so I’ll do a draw once I have a list of who’s interested.
So what do you guys think?

My playing time is sometimes curtailed by the other half and/or her legion of kids and distractions, but i’ll try and get some decent time over the weekend to devote to it 🙂

I would be up for this… although rarely get to play these days. And since the new TS3 update, my mic doesnt work anymore!

No worries John, we’ll not get all the games done tomorrow anyway, and can play Sunday if that’s when you’re free. I suspect football tomorrow will mean only a few games played.
I’m not sure how to take Turk’s comment about rarely being able to play, but I’ll assume from his posting that’s he’s in for now. Five people was a little ticky to work out a fixture list for, but maybe Saturday morning wasn’t the best time to do it 🙂 Anyway it works out as, 5 rounds, 5 maps, with 4 games and a bye for each player. I picked 5 maps which seem the most popular from the expert replays on gamereplays.org, and randomly drew names out for the matches below:

Post your results below, and remember to include the final ticket count for each round. We’ll look at what still needs to be played tomorrow afternoon, and decide whether to extend the time, or just kick whoever’s not been playing. With excuses already posted I expect we’ll have to kick at least one, but if we do, it’s only to get this thing finished in order to move onto the 2v2’s 🙂 Because we have some byes, there’s also room for a latecomer to join in, so let me know today if you want the spot.
Reinstalling the game now… but there is no way I am going to be able to play 4 games over this weekend. Also v under practised…. if it makes it easier – please take me out of the comp – would be up for a normal game something though.
We’ll see how it goes Turks, tomorrow’s an ambitious target so don’t worry too much about it. It’ll only really happen if we’re all on at once, like last Sunday, and it’s only then that we’d consider dropping people. Don’t worry about being under practiced either, John for example hadn’t even played the game until last weekend, and the rest of us have played maybe a dozen skirmishes, of which we’ve lost half 🙂
There’s four of us online atm on TS, but not sure whether we’ll get many games done since Bad Company seems to be getting in the way. Anyway Turks, if you’re about today jump on TS and we’ll see how it’s going 🙂
If you’re still keen Turks, there’s still time for you to join in with this, although John’s not sounding too confident about taking part anymore either, but we’ll keep it going this week anyways to see how it goes. If anyone else wants to join in as well, there’s still space.
