Participanthow much control do you want over the entries
ie
will they always appear in alphabetical order?
do people need to search for particular people?
do you need to be able to tag the entries?
are you handling any other content or just the client list?xdc magicker
Participantyou need a CMS system in place. What you describe would be doable for a small number of people but would quickly scale out of control if more than a handful of people signed up.
Do they have a budget or is it a favour for a friend basis?
if no budget you need to be looking for an open source solution… but someone will still need to pay for a server (the one they have may do the trick)
i love finding answer for these sorts of probs.. i will have a look around as well.
you might even be able to use an e-commerce system for this and just remove the shopping elements. all these types of systems have non-techy back ends with wysiwyg input areas and either end users (ie actors) or multiple staff can work on the site at the same time.
There are quite a few open source social network in a box systems starting to appear which may do what you want.
Basically the dreamweaver route is a nightmare waiting to happen.

ParticipantIs it worth trying out ?
hell yes. i dip into linux at least once a year to see how things are progressing and i have an eeepc 701 which run xandros and ubuntu. they ar very impressive systemsi’ve not messed around with it before but it seems to be getting more popular and i’m tempted to give it a go but wondered about a few things.
can i install and play my games on it or are they OS specific (kinda know the answer to this one but would like it confirmed)……my games being the BF series, RO etc.
no 🙁 until the linux bods can run windows games as well (better would be good) as windows i really think the whole thing is doomed to failure but being geeks i dont think they understand what is holding them backIs it easy to set up email, in fact is it easy to use in general, i know years back it was a real techheads OS as it required a lot of configuring.
a complete doddle to setup. ubuntu is easier than windows to installDo progs like flash, shockwave etc work ok in linux ?
yes no probs you can still watch your streaming pron .. http://www.empflix.com ftwI’l probably think of a few more questions but thats a few to be getting on with.
Cheers all.
