Is it worth trying out ?

i’ve not messed around with it before but it seems to be getting more popular and i’m tempted to give it a go but wondered about a few things.

can i install and play my games on it or are they OS specific (kinda know the answer to this one but would like it confirmed)……my games being the BF series, RO etc.

Is it easy to set up email, in fact is it easy to use in general, i know years back it was a real techheads OS as it required a lot of configuring.

Do progs like flash, shockwave etc work ok in linux ?

I’l probably think of a few more questions but thats a few to be getting on with.

    Cheers all.

hell yes. i dip into linux at least once a year to see how things are progressing and i have an eeepc 701 which run xandros and ubuntu. they ar very impressive systems

no 🙁 until the linux bods can run windows games as well (better would be good) as windows i really think the whole thing is doomed to failure but being geeks i dont think they understand what is holding them back

a complete doddle to setup. ubuntu is easier than windows to install

As magicker says ubuntu linux is a relative doodle compared with linux of old whilst i use kubuntu a slight deriative. Download and burn to a disk and then run the setup from within Windows (only tried XP) and you can even install it to your Windows partion and it just makes its own folder, though i gave it its own partition.

Gameswise, still very doubtful, ive used a program called Wine to get a very old online flight sim to run on kubuntu but i wouldn’t think newer games would work well, if at all with this sort of emulation, i might give bf1942 a try just to see what happens. Wine is good to run your average Windows application on Linux though.

Yup, install Firefox 3 and it’ll update as nessesary, also get the hang of the update packages, thats where you’ll find all the free tested and stable programs you’ll need and there’s alot more drivers than there used to be.
