ParticipantMy Ma’s DVD writer has clapped out, so need a new one… For an old Pentium 4…
If we cant get it to work, shes going to take my pc (and I get a new one :)), and wack the new burner in there (mine died years ago)… could there be a cross compatibility issue, or has burner tech remained the same over the last 10 years or so?
Any good brands to go for?
Cheers

ParticipantHmmm its going to be the same old IDE and SATA shit isnt it… how gay
Any way of finding out what type without opening the box?

ParticipantOpening up the box and looking at the cable is going to be the easy way.
The long way, try something like this -> http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
Download, run it and go to storage devices and it’ll show all your devices and tell you whether they are SATA or otherwiseSeptember 4, 2008 at 9:33 am #69080TurksMeister
ParticipantEnded up just pulling it out of the machine…and scanning it!
Is this SATA or IDE?

Cheers
*edit* Not just being lazy – google isnt getting the results 🙂

Managed to swap the drives fine… go me 🙂

Amazing price for a dvd burner/player… that also happens to play all HD-DVD’s and blu-ray discs. I have been frothing over my ‘plkanet earth’ blu-ray boxed set over the past few weeks. HD heaven!
Can pick up some cheap HD-DVD bargains just now as well.
