Participantt00th, there are maps that take a full ten minutes to get to the middle of in tanks.

ParticipantIt’s good, sounds like an advertising tune though, at least I know or good old Johnny boy won’t sell out any of his tunes for lots of money to be used on advertising, I mean he would never want to sell a product he didn’t personally approve of, maybe allow his music to be used for Cancer research or the Red Cross, but at least we’ll always be sure that he won’t be using it to sell a vice.
That’s right isn’t it Johnny?
seriously though, liked the tune and congrats you rich bastard!

Participantunfortunatley the damage will have already been done in transportation. You ould decant the product and mix it yourslef if you wanted, as a solution.

ParticipantI think it’s actually AI drivers, he modded the game slightly so he could put a thousand cars on, he obviously has a computer that can handle it, but it does raise an important point, the AI is quite varied, as you can see at the beginning when they spread out.
Anyway, thought it was a pretty cool video, well edited, but with the most irritating tune!

ParticipantIt’s actually a problem companies have paid millions researching as it happens alot with more important products, but if you were to shake a glass full of the pproducts (with a lid and small gap so they can move around as they would when in transport) you would notice the smaller particles sedimenting at the bottome of the glass. It may take some time to notice, but it is indeed a problem. It is caused purely by the disruption during transport of the produts and the relative sizes of the grains. There are many reasons for this, the simplest explanaion would be that the large grains impede each other and leave gaps that smaller grains can fall between, which is certainly a factor, but there are more forces at work. One must take in to account the relative forces of differing particles, for example the effect of air drag, although it may be minimal in a box of cereal, is important. As is the difference in elastic properties of the different particles, density of the particles, friction, surface texture, etc.
Although research in this area would seem uneccesary, think of the transportation of powders in the pharmecutical industry, if the different compounds which need to remain mixed were to segregate during transportation then the entire batch may be rendered useless wthout further mixing ( a process not always available at the destination, especially in shops!).

Participantpersonally I like the tanks, zig and queeks and I have had a fair few laughs. There are tricks with the tanks , hit spots and all, nothing like taking 10 or twelve shots from a n00b onlt to kill him with one shot (not that it happens all that often. Teamwork is VITAL with the tanks, zig normally drives and I gun, and we can be fairly sucessful at times. Reaally need to use the terrain to full advantage, much more realistic and rewarding than the BF2 tanks. As for infantry, not got the hang of it yet, although alot of fun at it’s best, can be bloody annoying, especially when no one communicates. Personally I reckon that we could have a fairly balanced bit of clan teamwork going on on a mixed map, we should maybe try it out if we get a server up.
Anyway, going away for a month next wednesday so I won’t be on till after then really (might have a couple of games at the weekend though if we could all meet up on a server, that would be awesome.) As regards Ventrillo, it constantly cuts out for me for periods of up to 20 seconds, sound quality may be better, but prefer constant communication than telling someone to stop in a tank and getting frustrated only to find out that they couldn’t hear me!

ParticipantEveryone is so quick to right this game off! So what, ok it took EA 4 patches to get a game working, hell, it took them 5 before bf1942 was ever playable, to not buy a game from EA just because of EA past history, then i dont get it, you lot who complain about EA, how many of you have got 1942 and BFV! Stop your whimpering!
First off with BF’1942 they had an excuse, it was a new type of game as far as I was concerned which was frought with unanswered questions, especially on the game play front, one of the reasons I didn’t like ‘nam when I first got it was because of the m60 imbalance, something I never felt they got right. As for not buying something because of the past history of the company, it is the type of purchasing decision you would make any day, you wouldn’t get a new model of a car you have had reliability problems with for example, regardless of how good it was, you would wait until you had some real results before you commited to it. Your blind faith in EA s something that puzzles me TBH, you may have enjoyed BF2 but I was overall disappointed with it, the actual idea was there, but they failed to deliver and seemed to take little notice of the community.
To be frank Max, I won’t get 2142 because EA and DIce have failed to deliver on their potential, which I admit is tons of poential, with this franchise and I don’t trust them to ever do it. I would love for them to prove me wrong, but until there are 3 or 4 months of trouble free gaming with 2142, (and by this I mean big trouble, not just small niggly problems) then I might consider, but buying it blind? I would be a mug, and so would you!

ParticipantWon’t be getting this, even though it will make little difference in real terms I’m hoping that there will be a few people like me (and Recoil) who take the line that EA and diCE have fecked around with the series and never got it nearly right with quite horrendous errors (the memory leak is massive in BF2 STILL after 4 patches) that it is both a waste of money and the oly way you can get through to them is by not buying the game. I’m workig on the principle that if enough people feel this way then they might notice, I doubt it though.
Oh well, enjoy 2142, I’m sure it will lead to mass enjoyment which is the point of the game really, but I can forsee the frustration coming to all you players when you find the inbalances, the crashes, the memory leaks, the poorly writen sloppy coding, the general frustration I now associate woth the BF series.

Participant“only £20” you say. Well Ihave been at uni for 8 years and acccrued a arge amount of debt and I don’t have a job at the moment so £20 is quite a bit for something I already know will be unfinished as it’s based on an engine which is still not working properly for the original game.
ok, Igot two copies of RO for £15, £7.50 each. Not a bug free game, but the bugs are few and far between and the community is alot more mature than the BF community.
What more can I say except anyone who buys 2142 cannot then turn around and complain that it needs to be patched and is unfinished because you already know the game won’t be finished from experience of the bf series and as long as you keep buying them at this standard, they will keep producing them at this standard.
that’s all I have to say on the matter.
