Participanti checked back on those details. The cpu is the standard one they do now on their overclocked range; either that or the i7 and also the DVD isn’t blue ray at all it’s just listed as DVD/blue ray. I could go for the standard CPU then in which case i could choose to have an ivybridge over a haswell.
The overclocked cpu’s are clocked up from 3.2ghz to 4.2ghz, would that give me noticeable gains? I imagine that having nigh on an extra 1ghz of cycles would help with certain tasks though not sure about gaming.
Hope you’re well doc. long time no chat. 🙂

ParticipantHaving watched some of the E3 stream last night the building collapsing does appear scripted insofar as it falls the same way each time but it’s purely dependant on the opposing team knocking out the 4 pillars that hold it up. There is a flag at the top of that building that the enemy has to cap, if they knock the building down it then puts the flag in the ruins of that building and there is also the added nuisance of the dust flying around and making visibility that bit harder for the heli jocks etc.
I’ve not played BF3 so have no idea how it may compare either graphically or gameplay wise but would imagine that the images we’re seeing at the mo are not fully textured or finalised and the gameplay will be pretty much the same as any other BF game.
think these guys explain it better:

ParticipantI’ll check the price of the ivybridge CPU and also why it’s selected a blue ray player as I’ve no need for it. Would 16Gb be any use as everything I’ve read so far shows negligible gains over 8Gb.
There are a few choices for the SSD, I’ll check them later and post them here to see if you think one is any better than the others.Cheers.

ParticipantI was going to hang out until BF was released but having watched a good few rising storm vids I’m now tempted to get a machine to play that until I can get my BF fix……………still wish the new BF was WW2 though 🙁

Participant780 puts the price up a bit too much for me.

Participantfound the first multiplayer vid:

think i may enjoy playing this 😉
edit: same vid but taken from the live presentation so has narration whilst the guys are playing.

Being able to be the commander from a tablet if you have a battlelog account looks like a great addition as no more need to find somewhere “safe” to hide.

1The above weighs in at £1268.00 which is a little over what i wanted to pay but seeing as it’s going to last me a good few years i guess i can spend a little more and take their finance option to pay it off over 12 months.
My questions really are what do you guys think of the case, the mobo and also the SSD? I’ve read mixed reviews about the gfx card with some saying it’s better than the 680 and others that it’s somewhere between the 670 and 680 but if anyone kmnows any different then i’d appreciate hearing about it.
cheers gents.

I’m salivating just thinking about playing this game, going to try and sort some funds out and get a new pc – where have i heard that before? 😉

Participantthink i should watch a few vids of this game. Is it worth getting a new pc for guys?

ParticipantGuess no one else is sold on it mate, maybe you’ll have more luck with the Canadians 🙂

Participantyup there is, the built in app is called bootcamp or you can use a 3rd party prog to do the same thing. You then install a version of windows on it and voila you can then run windows proggies like BF42 etc as normal.
XDC wild egg tamer
Participanthad a look on origin but BF42 is only available to download on the PC though i still have my original version so providing i install windows on the mac i should be able to play it. RO is fine for now, gives me some fun until i’m ready to sort a pc out 🙂

ParticipantLooking more tempting to self build seeing as I could drop the ram to 8Gb, lose the soundcard and now don’t need to purchase an OS. I could also upgrade the gfx card to the faster 670 mentioned earlier and possibly still be a few quid in to buy a new monitor!
I’d forgotten how “enjoyable” configuring a new PC could be lmao.
XDC wild egg tamer
Participantinteresting points being made which is why i posted up regards a new pc. I’m confident enough to build my own rig having done so in the past though may need to read up a little on PCI-E and SATA as my previous build didn’t have any of those lol. My main thing is if i can be bothered to!
Ideally i don’t want to spend any more than £1000 and would happily forego things like overclocked systems in order to keep the price down as i’m sure for what i’d be using it for i’d have little to no need for the extra clock cycles. I may try and source the components separately, perhaps changing the mobo for lammies one and see what the price is to try and make a comparison.
The offer of a win 7 key would be greatly appreciated though not an issue if it can’t be done 🙂
