Turks, you asked what games i played. I can’t remember the names but i started with an archery one which whilst graphically very simple was great fun to play and very addictive. I then had a go on a light saber type game which i didn’t like at all, control wasn’t brilliant and the scenario he put me in was awkward to play. I think the lack of any of real haptic feedback made that game difficult to master; the idea was like you were a jedi in training and a little orb was flying around you and you had to hit it before he hit you.
Another game i think was called space pirates and that was good. You fired with both hands so could have one gun set on rapid fire, another set on laser or whatever or alternatively could reach back and bring forward a shield. I got pretty far with this game as it felt really quite natural to play. Lastly there was a zombie type game called the Brookhaven experiment. Again, another good game and quite immersive. I’ve footage of my brother in law playing it (he’s not a gamer in any way) and by the end i was in hysterics as he was jumping and shouting all over the place as he kept turning around and seeing a zombie right in his face!
Some of the games weren’t that great, one my bro in law played involved him being a spy of sorts and having to crawl around and manoeuvre his way over obstacles to pick up key cards etc. It seemed very buggy as at one point the key card dropped to the ground but seemed to fall into the floor and whilst visible it was impossible for him to pick up.
My neice had a go on more children orientated games and enjoyed the robotic puppy and throwing sticks for it etc.
The place i played it just used a large 55″ (possibly) TV for family/friends to view the game.
got most of my keys bound how i want them though there”s still a few issues i’m finding. In other BF games i can use the mouse wheel to scroll through all weapons, ammo/medic packs grenades etc but for some reason i can only scroll between the pistol and rifle which is annoying but I’ve bound some keys to deal with that.
The other issue is jumping. I’ve bound that to NUM1 (i use arrows to move as i’m left handed so WASD is awkward) but i can’t jump when i want, i find the first jump is ok but it then goes back to being the bayonet charge. As i’m typing this i’m wondering if that key is now bound to two actions – i’l check that later.I’m enjoying the game it self though there’s some crazy glitches like people rubber-banding when they run past and floating guns on some areas of the map. I don’t know if it’s me but from the vids I’ve watched and playing in-game there doesn’t appear to be any bullet drop; pretty much from whatever distance you aim at someone dead on and you hit them.
Playing last night with max and fluph was the first time in ages I’ve really enjoyed a BF game. No fancy proximity sensors or hi-tech gizmos but just raw weaponary and teamwork. I’ll get a mic sorted so that i can use the VOIP or TS.
I’ll hopefully get to have a go or three over the weekend.
Just thought of another annoying thing: you can’t use a joystick in the game unless it’s just not recognising mine.
