ParticipantThat’ll be Max – don’t worry about it he gets us all that way with his voodoo.
Sometimes I think he just has to blink in the right direction to kill someone….
Welcome, btw.

ParticipantThey were just arson about a bit.

ParticipantI’m in the same boat, Neon, but without the flexibility of changing my motherboard as it is in such a small case. Looks really cool, is very quiet, performs well, but sucks for changing PSU & graphics cards.
So I thought spending a few quid on a 6800 may give me a bit more visual richness, or possibly mean I can run at higher than 800×600.

ParticipantDon’t know about your question WET, but I may be interested in taking your 6800GT off you if you do decide to change.
I’ve got a Shuttle PC, which is a very small box and so am limited to what cards can fit in. I currently have a 5900XT card, and wouldn’t mind a little extra power before being forced to upgrade to an PCIX system. I think the highest power card I can have is the 6800GT, but that will depend on how big the card is and whether it has a huge heatsink or not.

ParticipantNot done much, but I had big problems with Pinnacle doing anything longer than a few minutes. Crashed each time it tried to render the final movie.

ParticipantYeah that’s true – worse it eats up your memory card (~8Mb/image vs 2-3Mb).
I’ve got a 160Gb primary disk and a 250Gb USB2/Firewire external for backups so should be alright. I’m considering whether to simply ditch the raw files once I’ve processed them and turned into something nice.

ParticipantCheers, thanks guys I’ll give these things a go.
The image I posted is scaled down from the original total stiched width of about 7k pixels – rescaling to 800 pixels wide is for a banner on my website.
Unfortunately I can’t take the shots again – they were taken on my Ixus 5 a couple of years ago. Since then I’ve got myself a 350D digital SLR that can do RAW, but its not an option in this case.
I’ll try both fixing up the full sized post-stiched image as Neon suggested, and maybe also have a go at matching the colours on the original 5 pictures, and then restitch.
Majicker – nice job. Mind if I grab that image to use in the short term?

ParticipantNew profile, I’m afraid. I didn’t bother, and just left it to my sig.
Would be nice if the tags could be changed – probably need Majicker to do it. I guess if you had rights you could modify the database table directly.

ParticipantRAW mode rocks. I’ve had my EOS 350 for a few months and not really bothered with RAW at all until over Christmas. I needed to take a photo of our house Christmas lights. Shooting in straight JPEG, irrespective of exposure, gave a distinct red/yellow tint to the underexposed parts of image(house, garage door etc). Shooting in RAW , however, let me sort this out really well. I’ll probably do everything RAW from now on.

ParticipantYou can get Picassa free from Google – just go to the “More” page from Google’s main page. It’s typical Google-ware – looks great, and does the basics well. Not looked at in a while so I don’t know how it currently stacks up.
I mainly use Photoshop Elements v4, and have found it really good for all my needs so far. I’m barely scratching the surface of what it can do. It’s about £40 – v5 is out now but not found a reason to upgrade.
I’ve heard good things about Gimp – used an early version briefly but found the UI to be lacking compared to Elements.
Paintshop Pro you now have to pay for, I think. Looks like Turks needs an eyepatch airbrushing in on his face 🙂
