ParticipantAlright noticing some of the threads I thought I’d ask for a bit of help. This year I’m meant to be saving money so no new ‘puter for me…but!
I’m running an x850 PE at the moment and thought it would be nice to upgrade that a bit.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-069-HT
HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (AGP) – Retail (H1950PRQT512DDA-R)Is it worth me buying this or should I wait for an AGP DX10 card? Will they even do one?
Cheers

Participantgot me curious about the Ati AGP card now……i’m currently running a 6800GT now and would like to know if it would be worth the investment to get the new ati card ? I’m not planning on upgrading the pc for a while yet as the funds can’t stretch but am hoping to perhaps get a bit of longevity out of a new card and an additional Gb of ram…….Does anyone know what sort of power it kicks out and what sort of power supply would be needed ??
ta very muchness ๐

ParticipantDon’t know about your question WET, but I may be interested in taking your 6800GT off you if you do decide to change.
I’ve got a Shuttle PC, which is a very small box and so am limited to what cards can fit in. I currently have a 5900XT card, and wouldn’t mind a little extra power before being forced to upgrade to an PCIX system. I think the highest power card I can have is the 6800GT, but that will depend on how big the card is and whether it has a huge heatsink or not.

ParticipantYou fellows with AGP cards (like me) would really be flogging a dead horse getting another AGP card (IMHO).
Here’s what I got for christmas:
Effectively it’s a motherboard that’ll support AGP and PCI E, also DDR and DDR2 (although obviously not at the same time). The reason I got this is because a) it’s cheap and b) it means that I can do a gradual upgrade when I’ve got some more money (2012 is my guess). Until then I can use my old 6600 AGP card and Corsair RAM in a faster PC than I currently have.
Ideally, if I had a few hundred quid burning a whole in my wallet I’d get the whole caboodle at the same time (GFX, RAM, Mobo, PSU and CPU), but I’ve got a wife and 3 mortgages to support these days, so for now I’ll settle for a packet of cable ties ๐

can you do me a 12 month finance package then ? ๐

ParticipantI’m in the same boat, Neon, but without the flexibility of changing my motherboard as it is in such a small case. Looks really cool, is very quiet, performs well, but sucks for changing PSU & graphics cards.
So I thought spending a few quid on a 6800 may give me a bit more visual richness, or possibly mean I can run at higher than 800×600.

What price have we got you down to atm?!

ParticipantCheers for that. Hmmm still not sure Neon about that. I think if I was to buy just the new graphics card then it would pretty much be the last upgrade on this system. When I make the jump to PCI_E (or whatever’s the dogs dangly bits by then), I’d probably plump for something costly.
Did some tests on Tomshardware between the 1950 and 850 cards and there is a noticeable difference.

ParticipantI am plainnning on buying the Saffire X1950Pro at the end of the month. I see that one is รฦรโรยขรขโยฌร ยกรฦรขโฌลกรโรยฃ30 more than the saffire one, but its factory clocked. Mind the saffire one will clock up too. similar looking cards anyway.
Looking at the various guides i have a Radeon 9800Pro and the GF6800GT was just over twice as fast and then this card is nearly 3 times faster than that. so I am going to get a massive boost even without overclocking.
