ParticipantEnglish XP will be fine. Assuming you don’t need to switch languages then XP Home edition in English should be OK for you.
The thing you will need to look out for if you got for a SATA drive is that installing XP is not trivial if you are a novice. Do a Google on “installing XP SATA” to get more background.
I would also recommend that you actually buy a copy of Windows XP. Apart from the legalities of bit-torrenting it, the operating system is the one bit of software on your PC you want to be 100% sure is kosher. It really is a false economy otherwise.

ParticipantIt’s all lies – he wasn’t killed by Stingray after all….

ParticipantFor the sake of his family I just hope it was simply a tragic accident rather than a stingray-baiting stunt that went wrong.
Some friends of mine saw him in Oz earlier this year, and said he was was a great bloke and seemed very genuine – if a trifle mad.

ParticipantA google image search for me brings up this:
Now, it has to be said, I am quite partial to wearing silver spandex, so this was pretty accurate 🙂
But I also got this, which is a bit worrying as I have never worn a cowboy hat in my life. Well, at least not since seeing Brokeback Mountain….
BTW, anyone else think that Turks is a bit bored today, given this post and the “guess the kit ” one? 😉

ParticipantI wonder if competitors can place adverts in EA games? Picture this:
You’re blasting away in Medal of Honor, when suddenly you notice a billboard saying “Fed up with unfinished games? Buy Call-of-Duty Today!!”
Hippo’s right – static advertising has been around for ages, and not just in EA games. Now you just have to accept the extra cost that downloading adds every round, and also the extra bandwidth to send back metrics of what you looked at for how long.
I wonder how long before the advert mechanism is hacked. Imagine the temptation to hackers to stick their own notices up in the games – this is the perfect playground for them.

ParticipantPeople seemed to materialise out of nowhere! Was a few really good games going on.

ParticipantGet on over to https://www.combattesting.com/ and get your feedback in. That’s where the official feedback forum is.
The hover tanks are basically “light tanks” in today’s parlance – compared to the Tiger which is definitely a heavy tank. The lack of obsticle clearance is annoying, but you can strafe your way around heavier armed enemies which is quite cool. Just remember that mouse points the gun & WSAD steers independently.
I actually like the troop transport – I’ve been in a couple of games where the pilot has been zipping around the battle picking troops up & putting them down where the action is hottest. I know you can do the same with Blackhawks in BF2, but it hardly ever happens because (a) people can’t spawn directly into it – you can in 2142, (b) lack of speed makes you too vulnerable, (c) it’s harder to land.
I typically play engineer as his infantry gun is good, and the AT useful. I’ve got the EMP mine unlock but not had much chance to use it. I think where it will come in is in setting AT traps – tank goes over mine, shields down, you pop up from a hiding place and shoot with AT.
My initial impressions were like yours – I really thought I was going to hate this. But it has really grown on me this last week or so.

ParticipantI think the resulting banana shortage crisis would have brought economic ruin to the Third Reich before it could complete the invasion of Britain.

ParticipantROFL!!! Would love to see that 🙂

ParticipantThat’s exactly my experience too, vonny. Bleeding frustrating isn’t it?
Some twat on my team ran over my EMP mines in a Tiger, died, punished me, and ranted at me being a noob. Sigh….

ParticipantI’m pretty sure key sharing won’t work – and even if it did, it explicetly breaks the beta agreement.
It’s actually *not* a “demo” – it’s a restricted access beta version to get feedback on gameplay balance issues. I think EA have actually made a mistake in opening up the beta so widely as it has just attracted an unusually high proportion of ooo!!!me-too!! smacktard kiddies – certainly a lot more than in your typical BF2 game.
Since I don’t work for EA anymore, it’s really no skin off my nose, but I just don’t want to see you get into trouble or banned and have your fun ruined.
Maybe Lammie can clarify on this a bit, as I know he is a bit more involved than I.

ParticipantHey vonnie – I’m pretty sure that the terms of the beta program mean we’re not supposed to talk about it.
Mind you the beta is sooo widespread that it’s kind of unavoidable. There’s very few team players on the servers in my experience – just a load of bloody Titan campers!
If you’re on again, look for Lensman on the buddy list and maybe we can hook up.
BTW – you’ve got waaay more unlocks than me, you git! 🙂
