Great topic, but my first reaction is “Oh fuck – don’t get me started!” 🙂
OK, entering into full Victor Meldrew mode:
Casual littering – It pisses me off no end just how dirty our streets are and seeing people just chuck wrappers, coffee cups, fag packets, beer cans over their shoulder or out of their car windows rather than use a bloody bin saddens me immensely. Compared to most other countries I have been to, our streets are an embarrasment.
The cult of 15-minutes of fame e.g. Big Brother & other reaility TV shows – Fuck me, what a waste of skin these people are. And we spend so much money on the whole bloody circus it just drives me to despair. You get bloody idiots moaning on about how awful it is that no money is being spent on feeding the hungry, refugees, homeless etc, and they are often the same bloody people that are phoning into Big Brother every week to vote on whether some other brainless twat is let back into society or not.
Extremists of all persuasions – Whether religious or not, people who have so much faith in something that it blinds them to any form of reasoned argument.
I’ll stop there otherwise the rest of my day will be gone. There’s sooo much more I could go on about!

No argument. I always thought the WMD “45 minutes” was bullshit, even well before it was shown to be after the invasion (too late). Going into Iraq was a mistake. The one country Islamic extremism could not operate in the mid-East was Saddam’s Iraq. But the invasion changed that.
Afghanistan was not a mistake and can be justified as a direct link to 9/11, but shifting focus to Iraq meant that the Afghan mission lost its way. The consequences of that are severe, and now the UK forces are having to bear the brunt of that error.
if there aim was really to cause terror and kill as many infidels as they could in one clean strike…….would’nt they be better off storming into one of the many congested airport terminals filled too the brim with thousands of holidaymakers clutching see through bags sponsored by the daily mail no less 😯
AND SETTING THE BOMB OFF THERE ??Interesting thought, but misses the point that the thought of a bomb on a plane is much more terrifying to Joe Punter than one in a building. In a plane, I am trapped and will definitely die along with 300 others. In a building I have a good chance of surviving, I can run away, and help is probably at hand.
The point is not to just to kill people. It is to paralyse society by making people afraid to go about their normal lives. I.e. it takes away our freedom, and replaces it with fear.

Israel isn’t some backwards country reliant on being given eveything. They have some of the most advanced high-tech companies in the world. While they do import some precision weapons, they also design and build their own.
They also pretty much pioneered remote battlefield drones, and the US were big customers of theirs until their own RPV programs got up and running.

Read what I actually wrote, and listen to what Galloway actually *said*. Which was that the US had supplied Israel with hundreds of long range nuclear missiles capable of reaching all Arab and Muslim cities. I’m pretty sure that if they had been firing those bastards around then it would have made the news.
His comment was in reply to the interviewer asking about his views on Iran supplying long range missiles to Hezbollah. Of course rather than answer that he just rants on about nuclear missiles, which is something he just made up on the spot.
I’m not disputing that the US supplies Israel with arms – of course they do. I was pointing out that Galloway’s “facts” are complete cock.
The fact that he talks crap does not therefore mean that Israel is right in its actions, and that civilian deaths do not count etc etc. That’s a separate argument I’m willing to have.
I agree with Wipers – the man is a complete and utter cock.
He went into the interview spoiling for sound bites. He immediately launched into a tirade about what a stupid question he was being asked. I’m sorry but that was just plain out of order and completely ruined any chance of the interview being any kind of reasoned debate. And that was a deliberate tactic, as Galloway knows that his “logic” and “facts” never stand up to reasoned debate and cross examination. The whole tone of that interview was set by him, not Sky, to divert attention from the nebulousness of his stance.
His “facts” are complete rubbish – opinion stated as fact and shouted the loudest does not make it true.
Likening Hezbollah to the French Resistance is stretching things way beyond the absurd. For example, the French resistance did not operate cross border rocket attacks and suicide bombings on civilian targets, and then rush back behind the border of another sovereign nation to hide. And he has the gall to say that Hezbollah is not a terrorist organisation – it is only painted thus by the media. Only a one eyed madman could think thus.
Here’s another rubbish statement from Galloway in the interview: “In most peoples eyes Israel is a terrorist state”. WTF? Really? Do you assume that any Israeli you meet is a terrorist? What the hell is a “terrorist state”? It’s just an utterly meaningless term.
I’m not apologising for Israel, and I don’t particularly support them in this most recent action. There may be elements of truth about the US diverting attention from Iraq and pointing more fingers at Iran. But you could argue it the opposite way too – Iran diverting attention from its interference in Iraq. That’s the thing with conspiracy theories – you can make them fit your opinion and never worry about proof.
There was an interesting article in one of the papers the other day on the PR war in Lebanon. It basically looked at a whole load of news reports and found some common patterns. Things like shots of a child’s shoe in the street near a crater – there was never two shoes, or three, or four. Strategically placed “Baby Milk Factory” signs – in English. Broken medicine boxes with a red cross on – never a red crescent as you would expect. How, in Iraq, coalition air strijes that go astray always manage to hit a “wedding party”
The fact is that both sides manipulate the media.
While Galloway’s final point about the relative value of human life was a powerful one and not completely without merit, it also ignored the fact that the value people like Hezbollah place on human life is infinitesimal. They know the consequences of where they base their operations from, place their ammo dumps etc, will result in civilian casualties, but they persist.

I don’t think it was the initial poke by the pensioner that is the problem. Good on her for having the balls to poke the little shit. She was probably aware of the potential consequences of being hit or whatever, but just felt that a line had to be drawn.
The absurdity here is that little shit runs back to his mum who reports her to the police. That’s absurdity number 1. Absurdity number 2 is that the cops actually went around to the pensioner, rather than telling scum mum to piss off.
So, getting pushed to the ground was her own fault. Getting arrested was not.
A few years ago in Wolverhampton, where I happened to be living for a bit, there was a big fuss once over a similar incident. Old pensioner bloke – late 60’s I think – walking down the road. Gets set upon by two youths – one with a knife. “Unfortunately” youths did not realise that this pensioner was an ex-para who still kept himself fit. The end result is two twatted would-be muggers, and an old guy who was just minding his own business being arrested for assualt. There was such an outcry in the local papers that the charges were dropped.
