Buffing up those rose tinted specs there m8 😉 Bf2 patches have included two new maps and various additions such as vehicle drops. The unlocks brought in the weapon content which could have dumped in a patch and passed off as free content if they wanted. As far as i can remember 42 patches included maps but no other content (apart from giving the japs the correct guns 😀 ) And don’t forget the RtR and Secret Weapons expansions which people bitched like mad about when they came out.
Bf42 started out unplayable and ended up unplayable with the last but one patch (for me anyway – constant disconnects after 1.5) which kind of spoiled the experience for me.
I think, like Jonny says, most of the positive feeling about 42 comes from the online community that formed around it, not necessarily the game itself. If i played it now once the warm nostalgia glow wore off I would get frustrated by the boring flat gameplay, the lack of commander/squad structure, and the constant air rape which eventually spoiled every map with aircraft in it. Apart from Corel Sea which was awesome (well i liked it).
BF2 biggest fuckup? The server crash bug in 1.3 – inexcusable.
Yeah BF1942 had more patches but they added stuff and the free updates that they did for it.
BF2 patchs have all been bug fixes and not really added anything. and the free updates? oh the paid booster packs! lol
Also notice that each BF game we get less and less maps to play on. i mean come on its getting annoying now.
Sorry but BF1942 still and always will be the best of the lot. sequels are rarely better than the original.

BF1942 – Well here it all started! Good in its days, but as wipers said, rapage in the air *guadcanal, and that huge desert map, cant rem.
BFV – Great step forward, and as I think everyone agrees, a big improvement from bf1942, big thumbs up for EA, although they never fixed the temple of lag and which became a joke to a all whole played that map, well known issue. The M16 kicked ass.
BF2 – Well, me fav! The dogs balls, the awesome teamplay, the commander skills, lovely jubbly.
BF2142 – It will take off, people need to give it a chance.
Everyone is so quick to right this game off! So what, ok it took EA 4 patches to get a game working, hell, it took them 5 before bf1942 was ever playable, to not buy a game from EA just because of EA past history, then i dont get it, you lot who complain about EA, how many of you have got 1942 and BFV! Stop your whimpering!
Ok, so its got a cross hairs, so dud bf1942 and bfv, but it didnt stop you RO lovers, liking them! Its got potential, its early days and i think if you had a chance to see some of the unlocks, you would see, how good this game is going to be.

Its BF2 all over again… I remember people moaning about the guns in bF2 and not being able to kill anyone without emptying an entire clip. 🙂 Don’t worry Max you will find your mojo with this game soon.
Things to consider – demo maps are rarely the best and screenies of the others (cities esp) look the biz. We only have access to a few of the weapons and bits of kit in the demo. There’s grenades, defibs, smokies, etc to come with unlocks. The squad leader stuff looks cool – mobile spawns, sentries. Most people looked confused with the Titan mode so there were a lot of headless chickens on last night. Once ppl realise they have to defend the titan then the battles will get better. Still discovering stuff – like the gun turrets on the titan and the escape pods. toyed with commanding briefly and it seems improved on.
I think the vehicle/heli whores were a bit disappointed because they couldn’t get into their favourite killing machines and start racking up kills. Tough shit is what i say. But i’m sure you will end up finding new and interesting ways to spoil the game for the rest of us soon enough 😉
Not so keen on – the difficulty distinguisinh the enemy (will just have to get used to the new uniforms), the weapon names (Wipers killed by a KYPT-154_U* or something); seemed to be a lot of ground humping on the demo, the names fiasco, the titan explosion stopping you from hearing anything on ts for 2 mins or more 🙂 . The kit select screen / commander screen are a bit harsh too.
I’ll give it time, its got potential, esp the teamplay element. When it comes down to it its a mod for BF2 like BFV was to 42. I didnt expect any earth shattering developments. It’ll be interesting to see where DICE take the franchise next.
Wise words mate, and yes im sure over time people wll get used to the gun handling, its just frustrating, the guns don seem patricularly accurate, but as i said, its got potential and im sure it will take off.
As Insane said, the weapons are total toss, dont seem to kill anything, even at close range! And Im noticing a pattern already, to the guns people are using due to increased accuracy.
But, its got lots of potential, and im sure there sort it.
