The new forums went up today for Day Z and there is a few issues with the patch. Apparently, zombies are now bugged and will randomly aggro you even if they can’t see you. A guy recounts being aggroed 80 ft away, whilst the zombie aggroing ran past 2 closer zombies who hadn’t aggroed. Also, there is a bug where you lose all your kit by putting on another set of clothes. So yeah, not gonna be playing it right now, these bugs should be getting hotfixed pretty quick.

There is getting a decent crowd of us playing this now, me and matt are gonna attempt to pick up a UAZ (7 seater land rover) to cut about the servers in so hopefully we will be able to pick you up.
Heh fix up a chopper and you can airlift me out! Its worth noting that vehicles are server specific so anything you fix up will only be availabe on that specific server. Same with tents.
Yeah, absolutely, we actually had a vehicle for a bit, the 4×4 off road pickup trucks. Me and chronic engaged a pair that had it, we killed one whilst the other jumped in the jeep and retreated. We got swarmed by zombies and the guy that ran away stopped 20m down the road and incapacitated us with a sniper rifle, leaving the zombies to kill us.
When I got back to my body to try and loot it, the server crashed and we lost everything. When the server came back up, we had their jeep sitting there so the only good and proper thing to do was steal it. I spent 20 mins doing suicide runs in cherno trying to work out how to fuel it but eventually managed to fill her up.
I picked matt up and headed for cc but we then worked out it was only a 2 seater. Me and matt decided to do another suicide run to the NWAF and we looted it fully. We hid the jeep and logged, and when I logged in the next day it was still there. I left it for matt and went to loot the airfield again on foot but got killed. Matt later lost the jeep as I had smashed it up pretty bad running over around 150 zombies with it but at least we know the basics of vehicle maintenance now.

I think for your first life you should probably iust spawn anywhere and get used to survival around some zombies, and die a few times, but if you want to be near us ben and me will be fairly close to solnichniy this evening which is one od the spawn points. You will likepy have to take the respawn option a few times before you get it.

Yeah, it is a lot more fun in group play. When you spawn in game and it’s not the place you want, if you hit escape, and then re-spawn. You will die and hit escape and then abort. It will bring you to a scoreboard of sorts, hit disconnect. Then it will bring you to a briefing screen, hit ok. This will re-spawn. If you do this over and over until you spawn at Solnichniy, we will be able to pick you up. We are currently just north of Dolina, working on getting a vehicle.

Yeah, all the zombies are AI controlled, the towns are pretty packed and if you get seen, you will quickly end up with a horde on you. You can run and attract more, you can fight and lose valuable blood (life) or shoot and waste ammo and attract more zombies. The consequences of being seen by zombies are severe enough to make you go to great lengths to sneak by them.
Other than that, it’s totally free form, you just have to survive. You spawn with nothing, you want to find a weapon (normally an axe as it’s silent) and a few bits of food and water to keep you alive. It’s your choice who you kill, obviously you can all join the same server (max of about 50 players) and meet up and choose not to shoot each other. Anyone else you see it’s a good idea to kill so they don’t kill you. Also when you die, you lose everything and spawn again.
There is also a great tool matt mentioned called “direct communications” It allows you to communicate with anyone in a certain radius of you. So if you can see someone, you can talk to them verbally and plead with them not to kill you/ransom them/threaten them etc.
It’s still in alpha stage but it’s one of the better game I’ve played in recent years, can’t wait til it’s finished. The situations are so tense. I can’t count how often I’ve nearly shit myself playing it, hearing a russle in the bushes etc. What matt described above took place over 2-3 hours. We’ve played much more together since then and it’s been an absolute blast. We’re slowly getting kitted out, I’ve been alive for almost a full day, I’ve got a sniper rifle, a few medical and food supplies and the tools needed to survive from the land (such as axe for wood, matches for fire, knife for gutting animals etc).

Yeah, an i5 is better but it will for sure run at full whack on the machine I have mentioned. Particularly on a 19″ screen. The one I built for my son has a worse processor, less RAM and a much slower graphics card. That runs on a 22″ screen (1680×1050) at 40 odd fps with all settings at least on “high”. The GTX560 is a monster card and with a capable processor and RAM (the i3 being superior to any of the old core2quads) it will run absolutely no problem at all at “very high” settings. All for under budget.

Ok, I have a case, monitor, audigy 2 soundcard, 2x36gb raptors, 1 500gb hdd, optical drive so would need mobo,ram,CPU,PSU,gfx and OS.
Ignore Bumstalkers spec, that won’t do BF3 on full settings.
You could get a decent spec for under £600 including OS.
Check Overclockers link to a £560 build below. This included case etc so you could come in a fair bit cheaper. I will do a more precise spec later
Of course it will play it full specs, of course you could get a better machine with 50% more budget.
The 6870 is on par with a GTX560, the mobo/cpu/RAM is better, but it’s also double the price. The machine in that thread is an extra £250 for a better mobo/CPU. If WET could put his budget to £600, I could spec a far superior machine to what’s mentioned in that thread.

There is multiple machines in that thread. Yeah, surprisingly, those machine are better with a 50% bigger budget. Feel free to spec a better machine than I have for the price though.

Hell at that price, you could drop an extra £50 on the card and get a GTX 660 or GTX 570 and maybe a better mobo/cpu combo.
The above noted will play BF3 on full settings though.

I’m tempted to buy a pc, got the mac mini which is great but i do miss the laugh i had with gaming. I’ve had a peek at pcspecialist and they have some nice pc’s but know i could build similar spec for not too much in the way of funds. If i can put a machine together that can play BF3 nicely but not cost too much then i may give it serious thought……only problem now is i’m so out of touch with gfx cards etc i have no idea what is considered half decent!
I put a rig together for my son’s xmas that plays BF3 a nearly max settings. Was aroudn £310 all-in. not the fastest or prettiest PC in the world, but it was built to play games an it does it well. Let me know if you need any advice.

Oh, if you re-use parts, you can splash out in other areas. For £400, you could build a respectable gaming PC. If you’re interested, tell me what you can re-use and I’ll put together a shopping list we can all argue over for a few days.

I’ve not seen the TV show mate. It plays like an interactive cut-scene, but very well acted. You make your choices and have to solve simple puzzles to progress, but the choices you make, direct the storyline. I played episode 1 through twice and had two very different play throughs. It’s good stuff.
