I took my X-Fi card out of my machine last night and it won’t be going back for the foreseeable future. Twice in the space of 10 minutes the card hit me with such loud feedback that my wife could hear it when she was watching TV in the next room, and I was using headphones!
I logged onto another server afterwards and played 2142 for 30 minutes with no problems, although admittedly I took a performance drop and the sound quality is noticably worse, but at least it worked. What’s annoying is that I’ve spent more time trying to get my PC running with the X Fi card than I have actually using it.
Normally I find that hardware might be hard to configure at first, but once it’s working you don’t have to worry about it, but not in this case.

I think there must have been some bad interweb about last night, since my PC froze/crashed 4 times in a 40 minute period. What makes it worse is having to sit through those annoying EA and Dice titles again and again.

According to IMDB the alternate ending didn’t do well at test screenings, so they hastily reshot it. Here’s what was origionally shot;
Theo and Kee are in a building surrounded by the army who declare that the pregnant lady must surrender. At this point Kee says that she’d made the whole pregnancy thing up as she just wanted attention and extra welfare benefits, since she’d got a bit porky and her boyfriend dumped her. Theo goes into a rage, but then sees the funny side and begins to laugh. Kee joins in too and Theo leans out the window and tells the army what she’s just said, and they start laughing. Then the The Fishes hear what’s happened, and they start laughing as well, and so do all the immigrants. Then some wicked base starts playing and the quarantine zone becomes a party! Pop sensation Shaggy turns up with some of his homeboys and some scantily clad dancers to perform his hit song ‘It Wasn’t Me’ as the credits roll in a party atmosphere.
Meh.

Nice job on the 70’s/early 80’s scifi babe-a-thon though Insane. Those were the days when a science fiction meant short skirts and ditzy subtle bondage shennanigans, none of this prime directive nonsense.

Holy shit! I’m definately watching it now. There hasn’t been any decent robot porn since that episode of ‘Metal Mickey’ starring Chesty La Rue.
I might try changing the PCI slot, but from what I’ve read at creative, I’m certainly not the only one to experience these problems, which is a shame ‘cos the card does deliver the goods in spades.
I’ll try some jiggery pokery with the PnP settings and the IRQ’s to see if I can make it a bit more stable.
