I’d be well up for this, providing we can get the XDC Women’s Auxilliary Balloon Corps (AKA 1stBW) onboard as well. This sounds like the equivalent to a Battlefield 2 pub team challenge. Bring it on!

We might even be able to start using some… erm… tactics?

What I am trying to say is that a build up of disciminatory factors over time, aimed at a specific group, can cause a disgruntled community. Whilst you did not turn in to a knob at school, if you had carried on being blamed for things you had not done through life, whilst others around you were let off (the girls perhaps), then I can imaging a level of bitterness welling up in side you.

Good point young Turks. However, you could say that we currently have a law system that favours women (lower prosecution levels, shorter sentences for the same crimes), especially that a man accused of rape is now considered to be guilty until proven innocent, which is a very significant law. Maybe that does build up bitterness in men, but one thing doesn’t necessarily lead to another.

Let’s say a woman down my road is raped and the police want DNA samples from all the men. I could turn around and say that’s sexist, demanding that the women have DNA samples taken too. You never know, one of the women might be a man in disguise who was guilty of the crime. But chances are I’d be forcing the police to waste their time.

It’s like a car salesman in a posh garage. Chances are he’s going to give the man in expensive clothes more of his time than a man in old, cheap clothes. Is that right? Not really, but then we’re not the ones trying to pay off a mortgage and support a family. The salesman needs to get sales, not pander to public opinion.

Funny thing is, Ive always thought you had a big knob… go figure

    Guilty as charged 😉

The bottom line is: In my honest opinion, the discrimination of Muslims (or any minority group) in any shape or form can be a driving force towards extremism – thus exagerating the problem. I firmly believe this, so therefor believe that targetting your muslims/asians over everyone else is highy counter productive. Like most things, I believe that people do things for a reason… and feel that if the base of the problem is solved, the whole problem will reduce…

Why should young muslims become radicals because of the increase in security?

If some kid in my class at school acted like a knob and as a result the whole class ended up staying in a lunch time doing lines, did we all start acting like him by the end of term? Did we turn around and blame the teacher for the unfair punishment? No. The kid got shunned for acting like a ‘tard. Had he continued we would have had nothing to do with him and probably grassed him up next time he decided to act like a spaz.

So why are Muslim youths siding with the fanatics? Why are they listening to the fanatics in the first place? Using the excuse that they were driven to terrorism because of an unfair system designed to stop terrorists in their midst is simply an excuse. It’s like the boys who tortured and killed Jamie Bulger trying to blame what they did on watching the horror film ‘Child’s Play’.

Solving the problems that turn people into terrorists, murderers, rapists and whatever things that our society is against is fine, but there comes a point at which you come to an impasse, when an unstoppable force meets an unmoveable object.

And as Abraham Lincoln said: “You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

Actually, if there’s one thing that handicapped people hate, it’s being called ‘special’ or ‘special needs’. You just can’t win with them!

I suggest the word SPONGZ, as it’s a combination of mong and spaz.

I didn’t protest about the tube bombings, does that make me a sympathiser? In fact, given the current state of mind that says ‘it’s okay to treat asian people like shit cos they might be muslim’ gives me the same uneasy feeling as when people thought it was ok to treat Irish people like shit becasue they might have been in the IRA.

Unless you represent the Muslim community then your lack of protest makes no odds as you are not the one who is under scrutiny.

The arument here isn’t about the ‘right’ to treat people like shit, but to stop bombs going off on trains and buses. If we listen to their compaints and do stop the searches it’ll make it easier for the terrorists.

Again, this confusion of muslim and asian is what will casue the trouble. When the police pull all the Sikhs in because they have brown skin and might be terrorists we are already on the slippery slope. Do any of you trust the police to actually get things right?

They have been stopping Sikhs on the tube. One of my mates at the gym has been stopped about a dozen times now, but he’s okay with it. He said he didn’t mind being searched because he didn’t want to be blown up either. Incidentally, asks Sikhs and Hindus about their experiences of the Muslim faith.

Bah! Sorry Vic, I’m in debate mode. I just like a nice argument to get the old grey matter going and I’m enjoying this as it’s cleaning out the cobwebs. I should really take up chess instead 😉

Still 4/10. Laughing at mongs is bad.

Vic, you can’t complain that the film was making fun of handicapped people, and in the same sentence refer to them as ‘mongs’ 😛

Firstly: Great thread Hippy. I likes something I can get my teeth into (mmmm… Kirsty Allsop). Anyway, before I pop off to the toilet:

    @TurksMeister wrote:

But the same has happend in society with black males, and the police (err not the band!)… whilst I admit that a siginificant preportion of crimes are commiteed by young black males, the over seraching of innocent people has led to an anti police culture, which doesnt solve anything.

Actually Turks, look at the crime rate in London before and after police were stopped from searching individuals based on racial profiling. In fact back in the 70’s metropolitan police would search people with Irish accents because they might be IRA. You didn’t need to be Irish to support or serve the IRA (they had plenty of supporters state’s side and in the UK) but it made sense to start with them.

Just after september 11th a young muslim was taken off a plane for terroris reasons… I can’t remember how old he was, but I believe it was under 5… and then the extremely fundermentalist muslim Yusuf Islam was searched for the same reason… or for singing “father and son” to loud…

In 1955 Groucho Marx said “Honey, did you remember to pack the cocaine?” at airport customs. Customs officials strip searched his whole family, since they were unfortunately guilty by association. There’s nothing in the terrorist’s/drug trafficer’s handbook that says you can make kids carry bombs or crack.

I think it is a very delicate subject, and only/predominatly searching people of a certain appearence has been proven in the past to be highly unporoductive, and alternative methods have to be thought up. Besides who said “80-year-oldwomen, people in wheelchairs, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification,Secret Service agents who are members of the U.S.President’s security detail, 85-year old World WarII veterans with metal hips, and Boy Scout groups” cant be Muslims? Errr I rest my case!!

    http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/02-928.html

Being stopped and searched isn’t fun. It can be humiliating and embarrassing and police can abuse their powers when doing so. However, don’t be swayed by people’s victim mentality, especially when so many of these stop and search ‘victims’ supported the tube bombings in this country. If they disagree with the terrorists so much, then why aren’t they making their voices heard in protests about it? They were happy to protest about dodgy cartoons, but when it comes to mass murdering suicide bombers it all goes a bit quiet.

They need to be getting the public on their side, not alienating us.

lol, I was more pointing out the missing decimal point you muppet, a 270 callibre as oppsed to a .270 callibre, comprends?

Dont try and get pedantic on my ass you twat… I didnt invent the nomenclature for these things. The guy who showed me his guns called the 270 a 270 and the point 22 a point 22. I believe this is actually quite prevalent – though I may be wrong on that score. Why the ‘point 22’ is given its decimal status when other calibres arent is a mystery to me 🙂

.22 maybe because that would equal 5.5mm and .177 because it would equal 4.5mm

If you don’t give it the decimal then your are in theory not stating the correct calibre, it’s just down to laziness…

    duh?
