Nope but reading a book quickly isn’t a desired skill, beating a challenge set by someone else is a desired skill, they do it becuase it’s there, if you complete it in 7 hours you can always go back and do it on the more difficult settings, where the monsters are harder and drop better stuff, so the normal setting is pretty much just for levelling up a getting to grip with the game, the more serious players will replay it on the harder settings for the challenge.
Personally I attempted portal 2 as quickly as I could (or rather I wanted to do it quicker than Doc!), it’s a test of quick problem solving and dexterity. Comparing passive media to interactive media is a fools game, but if I was to do a comparison it would be akin to watching the film of the book rather than reading the book.
portal im not sure is a great example as its as you said, more of a problem and logic type game rather than a exploring/story game. maybe its how i view games thats different in that i see most of them as a story.

i have never understood this sort of mentality when it comes to games. why rush through a game as fast as possible just to say you did it first. do people read books and skip half the content just so they can say they finished it first?

they have said it will be released this year, but that could be any time. they had beta weekends for guild wars 1 that lasted almosta year before launch.
personally i suspect that they will go with a september release or somewhere around that date

Rush, hardcore, and 64 player servers, all have a special place in hell for ruining a great game, but putting all those arguments aside for a moment, what the fuck has happened to the BF community to constantly play x hundred% tickets on the vast majority of servers that I see?
Have we already got to the stage where people only want to play the “best” maps, or are certain maps suited to particular player types? Do people just play this game for a deathmatch on their favourite maps or do we still have a real hardcore out there who enjoy the original BF Conquest experience?
I’m desparing slightly here because I wonder now whether there is any point seeding our server at vanilla/proper settings, or has the interest now gone in the actual game I used to enjoy?
i know the feeling Matt, finding a server which has “normal” settings seems damn hard these days. its mainly, 1000 ticket maps or vehicle only maps.
i have been spending more time on a few servers that run a mix of game modes, conquest and rush alternately on the full map cycle. i really enjoy it as the change of both maps and switching between conquest and rush keeps the pace changing. as for HC and regular i enjoy both so it doesnt bother me but i know some people really dont like HC and others that much prefer it.

till its on PC im afraid it wont have my patronage, so i will just have to wait and see
yeah me too. really enjoying the dyanamic events and the free roaming style of “i wonder whats over there?… oh something is going on”

if you have the pre purchase key and you register it now you should still be able to get in.

i never got into gw1, never got on with it. mind you at the time i was playing eve very heavily and occasionally dipping into wow. gw2 is more like what people consider a traditional mmo, no mass instancing etc.
yeah i will post what server i will be on when its closer
