i have never understood this sort of mentality when it comes to games. why rush through a game as fast as possible just to say you did it first. do people read books and skip half the content just so they can say they finished it first?

Nope but reading a book quickly isn’t a desired skill, beating a challenge set by someone else is a desired skill, they do it becuase it’s there, if you complete it in 7 hours you can always go back and do it on the more difficult settings, where the monsters are harder and drop better stuff, so the normal setting is pretty much just for levelling up a getting to grip with the game, the more serious players will replay it on the harder settings for the challenge.

Personally I attempted portal 2 as quickly as I could (or rather I wanted to do it quicker than Doc!), it’s a test of quick problem solving and dexterity. Comparing passive media to interactive media is a fools game, but if I was to do a comparison it would be akin to watching the film of the book rather than reading the book.

portal im not sure is a great example as its as you said, more of a problem and logic type game rather than a exploring/story game. maybe its how i view games thats different in that i see most of them as a story.

You’re not the only one who thinks that way. Some games are built for challenges, others for longevity through exploration. Both have their place, however diablo is not one I wish to explore personally.

    Its great fun.
Btw wolf that guy must of been shit. He completed the game on NORMAL. The idea is that you run through the game 4 times. Normal, nightmare, hell and then inferno.
Unless your pretty pro you will need to be in a party for the last 2 difficulty’s at least.
Once you complete you start again on the next difficulty at the same lvl with the same gear as you ended the last one on. Every time you start a new game the landscape randomly spawns so no run through is the same. Harder monters better loot every run. I am 3/4 through nightmare atm and its challenging but still great fun.
Cant wait for the next difficulty so i can start twatting bosses with groups. Going to be awesome.

the difficulty ramps up on nightmare if you are grouped with other players, im on nightmare atm and the difficulty while soloing is very easy but in a group things really start to get harder, the rare and elite mobs hurt…. lots and take a real beating before they spill their loot. also the number of mobs increase as well so its great fun with more people in the group.

shit’s a bit strong, how long did it take you to complete the first difficulty? I know about the different difficulty levels, I even mentioned it in my post! Despite your self professed 1337ness, I still think he’s probably a better player than you, and certainly a long way from shit. But hey, if you are not impressed by others achievements then there is no need to disparage them for doing something quicker than you.

As George Mallory said about why he was climbing Everest “Because it’s there”, or would you rather say he was shit because K2 is a more demanding mountain?
